Android to Windows 8 phone... (Galaxy s3 to HTC 8x)

Featured Replies

Has anybody here switched from an Android phone to a Windows 8 phone? More specifically, the Galaxy s3 to the HTC 8x or nokia 820/920.....

I'm getting a bit bored but still have about 16mths of contract to go, so thinking i might see if i can flog the S3 and get an 8x in it's place. Just wondered if anyone has done the same and how they were getting on with the Windows phones.

Any thoughts?

Steve

Read a few rumours about windows withdrawing support for the current software next year, dunno how true it is though! Aren't you getting on with the Android platform?

Yeah i like android, but i'm not so sure i like Samsung so much and having had a Desire HD before i'm a bit bored. A change is as good as a rest..... But what you said about MS pulling support would be a bit of a worry...

I've just stuck my galaxy note on eBay and bought a Motorola R i to replace it. The difference between devices running android is noticeable and I'm glad I stuck with Android and just swapped phones.

I was convinced to take a 2 year contract on a htc8x with orange. It was on eBay in a month. Phone is great but windows is a nightmare! Apps are more expensive and no choice at all ,live tiles don't always work , apps I did purchase did not open and work correctly and you cannot customise it apart from moving tiles about. Stick to android mate I lost over £200 on phone but don't miss it at all.

If you are bored with it, just stick another ROM on it. The S3 hardware is sound, but if it is running stock samsung software then this will be dulling the experience down quite a bit.

Having recently got an S3 as a work phone I remember why I dislike Samsung. They've butchered android.

I must be the only person who likes Samsung lol, I hate the HTC I'm using at the moment and want my s3 back I miss it soo much and forgive it for it's charging problem. Tbh I think it was my fault that the fuse in my pocket got stuck in the usb port it started acting up after I pulled it out lol

Reflash it with something like cyanogenmod

What about a nexus 4 then? Maybe I'll enjoy a straight up android experience instead of samsungs butchering of it..... the thing that bugs me most about the s3 is the severe lag when you open phone/keypad/contacts app.... it takes a few seconds before it opens and just frustrates me.... I can put up with that from a third party app, but when its a basic feature, something that is the main purpose of a phone doesn't load smoothly and quickly, thats just not good enough....

My work phone doesn't do that so I'd say you have an app sucking cpu time

Agree with the above, mine doesn't do it either

again, just put a "pure " android rom on it like AOKP's jelly bean 4.2.2 offering, it will be like a different phone.

I swapped from s3 to htc 8x and apart from some apps not being available, I've been happy with the swap. I've windows phones before so knew what I was getting into. Windows has been fine for me and they don't have the latest and greatest quad core processors because they don't need them. I suggest trying one out at a local phone store because just like apple it's not for everyone.

I would check what apps you have running in the background. If you dont close them properly from the recent apps listing (should really be called running apps) then they are running in the background and sapping CPU time hence causing the lag.

You dont need to buy another phone just to get the clean android experience. You can easily reflash the firmware with a stock android ROM, there are several out there with my personal favourite being cyanogenmod. This would completely uninstall whatever software was on the device and install a clean version of android much like what is on the nexus 4.
