Has anybody had this come up before. I have had a google but it says that it could be something as simple as the car has been run out of fuel recently or something as serious as..

  • Start of Injection Timing Regulation not OK
  • Injection Pump Control Range blocked/dirty (e.g. by Metal Particles)
  • Engine has stalled / ran out of Fuel recently
  • Wiring/Connectors from/to Injection Valve (N108) faulty

Just not sure as the car generally seemed ok and without my new VCDS cable I would have been none the wiser.

Thoughts please</p>

Bit more info about the fault here http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17656/P1248/004680 although it does cover the things you mention.

I personally don't worry too much about a lot of codes that come up, providing the car is running properly and everything works. A simple momentary glitch can cause a fault to be stored. I scanned my car when I got it and it showed a fault with the wipers. The wipers have always worked fine so why worry about it.

I would not be so worried if it was something like wipers but its the fuel pump bit that gets me! It needed a cambelt replacing as well and Im pretty sure I could hear a tensioner struggling to turn freely.

but having said that it was a good price

I'd clear the codes and scan again in a week or two. As JB says, the slightest transient issue can store a code.

You might well find the code never comes back!
