strange noise.

Featured Replies

Sorry my first post is not a good one. I've been on the forum for nearly a year and normally find everything I need by search, but need a little help and advise. Last week I was driving along when there was a bang front the car, it felt like I run over a brick. I drove a bit further and the same thing happen again. Since then I have had a whirring/rumbling noise from the front off the car, which goes away when I press the clutch in or press the accelerator. The noise is road wheel and not engine related. I have replace the o/s driveshaft as the inner boot has split and the shaft was a pattern part. I've also replaced the o/s wheel bearing, but the noise is still there. After reading on the forum, I'm thinking that I could had dropped a rivet off the diff and damaged the gear on the diff. Any help will be appreciated before a fork out for a new gearbox and clutch/ flywheel while the box is off.

mine did this also im sorry to say the gearbox out look at diff mate mine was totally ****** had to get new box when u let throttle off you get rumbling noise then goes away when u throttle

You where spot on mate, one rivet missing off the diff.

Looking for a new gearbox as the rivets made a mess on the inside of the box, damaging the diff bearings and area around the bearing housing. is it worth stripping new box and swopping rivets for bolts and what bolts are best?

Personally that is what I'd do if it ever happens to me, wouldn't know how long the replacement will last for otherwise
