What Clamps to use - Keep popping hoses

Featured Replies

Right,

I am using Mikalor clamps but they just keep popping off :(

They will be fine for a few days then just let go without reason or warning.

What clamps are people using to keep things held together ? Or is there a trick to keeping things nice and tight ?

Need to get it sorted as not being the most mechanically minded person I struggle with the most simple of tasks like removing the bumper, doh :(

Little more info - Pipe work is beaded and running a stage 2 pd150 hybrid with FMIC.

Many thanks

Joel

Are your boost pipes beaded?

Pipe work is beaded bud :)

My experience on the EVO 5 we had was that once a pipe had blown off once, it was impossible to get it to stay on with any clamp, we bought new hoses in the end and had a tig welded rim put around the alloy pipes.

Then a standard Jubilee clip worked fine.

You sure they are proper Mikalor clamp's?I've never had any issues with Mikalor one's before and that included on a Supra running silly power. Which pipe is the one in question which keeps popping off?

Are they being done up tight enough? Have no issue using Mikalor clamps at pressures around 2.5 bar at the moment.

Make sure pipes are free from oil.

Take all pipes off and clean with carb cleaner

When refitting a good tip is to use some spray glue (capet stuff is good)

Then crank the mikalors right up

Will see what happens when I attempt to put it back together tomorrow.

The lower pipe onto the FMIC has been the culprit but I have a feeling the last night it was the one going to the turbo (not sure if this is correct, lower FMIC connects to it ??)

Thanks for the help fellas, Will keep the fingers crossed.

Are you venting your crank case to atmosphere?

If not id suggest you do it. Rids intercooler pipework of oil
