mk1 vrs clutch issues please help ..

Featured Replies

I not long brought a 2003 octavia vrs great car and ideal for my needs but it has developed a problem which im struggling to fix.

There is a vibration through the clutch pedal whilst pushing it down then a rattle one fully depressed, I was told it was the dmf so I had that and the release bearing done on friday but the problem has come stright back??

I was also told the flywheel was rubbing the sump slightly when fitted??

The old flywheel had fresh rubbing marks on the back from where it had rubbed before?

Ive been told its the crank maybe but all the research ive done the vrs cranks are reliable, there are no knocking noises and the car pulls and drive well with no issues exept the cluch pedal, can anybody please help me so I cam enjoy this car :'(

If i was you i would take the dmf and original clutch and throw it in the bin and get a G60 flywheel and a VR6 clutch conversion,

Might be an idea to get crank checked while flywheel is off just to make sure its not bent altho never heard of it

I see what your saying but I only just put the dmf in Friday and it was a luk one and I can't justify throwing 400 quid's worth off metal in the bin when the origanal has been fine for 100k.

Also If I replaced the dmf with a solid flywheel this would surly make the vibration worse?

Could play in the gearbox main shaft possibly be the cause?

I changed my clutch to the single mass flywheel with a unipart kit (used car warranty) and mine too rattles with the clutch fully depressed. I've no idea why so I'm interested to see if you fix it.

SMF conversion can rattle depending on how heavy the flywheel is (although mine doesn't) so I doubt its the same problem.

If there was marks from the flywheel fouling the sump something is very wrong, it needs to come back off and be checked properly

Cars back in the garage on Thursday we now suspect crank thrust bearings will post up when I find out :-(

Mine never did it until I changed the clutch.

So no engine knocking? What condition was the oil pick up pipe in?

The turbo went a few months ago and the pick up was cleaned out then so I think its a knock on effect from there really.

As for noise it just had vibration through the clutch pedal and a noise when depressed just like a dmf issue.

Sounds like I've got a fun weekend coming up soon then! Yey! Lol.

Yep more than likely linked.

If the turbo went, probably due to reduced oil feed.

Some folks that have a blocked pick up pipe may well have restriction in the oil feed pipe to turbo and without replacing both you will still have starvation issues.

Not economical to clean out , should just replace to be sure.

It had a new oil feed pipe from the filter housing but the oil pick up in the sump was just cleaned out I beleve, is a replacement pick up advisable in the new engine im fitting?

I gota say the 20v has loads off sensors and hoses compared to other engines I've done before!! Lol

I have finally finished the engine swap and all now seems good, I will take the sump off of the old engine and get some pics off the damage to it up.

Seen the odd volvo engine destroy its big end bearings when pickup gets blocked but mains usually suvive
