Plastidip on chrome grill?

Featured Replies

Should I rub back the chrome a little or will this stuff just take to the chrome as I know you can peel it off? Cheers

I've seen it been sprayed straight onto an Audi grill which hadn't been rubbed back and it applied fine.

I've plasti dipped my grill awhile ago and thanks to the nice weather today sprayed all my alloys all I've done was wash it as good as possible and sprayed and got very good results!! Nice cheap alternative very happy with the results

All you need to do is clean the chrome and dry it before spraying the Plastidip on it, just with water or even a bit of Fairy liquid.

I did that on my A6 grill. Just cleaned it with brakecleaner and sprayed the plasti dip over it.

5-6 layers and they are still on since over 40tkm. Has seen a lot of car washes too (the automatic things at fuel stations. Not allowed to wash the car at the house/on the street (Germans...).

And a lot of high speed driving

Straight onto the chrome, i cleaned it up a bit first and then started with a thin layer, slowly building up after 20 min intervals, did about 4 coats, looks good

What condition were your wheels in before? Mine have got slight marks/fine bubbling, would it cover these or would I still need to rub it all down?

Wheels were not in good condition at all a lot of kerb marks from previous owner, however it does hide the scratches well but the dents still visible but with layers of plasti dip any further the a metre away look as good as new! Sorting out photobucket now so links will be up shortly

Nice! Impressed with them. My wheels are pretty badly marked up too, that's why I was thinking of just plastidippin them. Where did you get all the cans from-the bay?

Sorry for the thread jack btw stu

Yeah im very impressed! the only annoying thing was when putting then on got to the last one and was tightening them up and the spanner slipped and marked last one gonna take it off at weekend and touch it up!! I brought from plasti dip uk website 6 cans for around 70 as 1 per wheel and used half on front grill then a spare :)

Yeah that's a good price. Nice one.
