When to sell ?

Featured Replies

My vrs estate, 2003 85,000 miles, never remapped, is developing a few problems.

it needs new clutch and thermostat and is coming up for 20k service all adding up to a few £'s andI'm just wondering when to sell up.

What's the usual llife span of these cars ? How long before major works need doing ?

I love my Octy and its been a very reliable and ecomonical car as well as great fun to drive but realistically how long are they cost effective to keep going ?

Any advice appreciated

Cheers Ed

Better the Devil you know sometimes.

If no rust around, you have spent and can now just keep on top of the mechanicals.

the engine will do 3 times more the miles.

If you change you can just start spending all over again. JMO obviously.

If you use a good reliable mechanic, then ask his opinion on your vehicle.

If say spend the money on the stuff that needs doing and enjoy for many more years. 85 k miles is nothing with regular proper servicing.

Not even run in properly yet, mines done 143k without any problems. Look after it and it'll look after you in return lol

Should have said that's the second clutch it's had

And the alloys are looking well worn

Anyone advise me where I can get replacement alloys ?

Second clutch? Strange as they wear well on the vrs, still haven't figured out if mines had one yet lol.

I'd go for a smf conversation if I was you, least then if it wears again it's cheaper

With the alloys just get them refurbished at a reputable place

2nd clutch is very odd...are you resting your foot on it when driving along or have some aggressive driving style?

I have just bought mine back with 108K on it. :) Hopefully many more miles left in her.

Clutch wears a mystery not resting foot on it and not particularly hard driver really

What's an SMF conversion ?

and how do I locate a reputable alloy refurbisher ? Are the ones in mobile vans any good ? And what should I be looking to pay ?

Ta for yr advice - as you can see I'm already leaning towards keeping the car

Bought mine with 126600 miles about 7 weeks ago, done nearly 2k in mine without so much of a hiccup and mine's Revo'd. Lovely the car, was doing an indicated average of 41mpg on a run last night and got 389 miles out of the tank and that was a lot of short trips. When I next fill the tank I want to crack the 400 mark!

Love my vRS, keep the car mate as said your car has pretty much paid for itself.

SMF is single mass flywheel conversion with VR6 clutch, works very well!

Where abouts are you m8? Another member may be near you that could recommend a wheel place

At 85K it's not even run in yet!! Clutches are usually good for at least 100K on mkiv derived VAG cars.

South east London

Ask pete (group1rs)

He has had some wheels refurbed and always look nice

And the guy is a legend so will be happy to help

Lepsons in Gillingham Kent are an excellent choice to refurb your wheels

Thanks all

Bit the bullet

Had the clutch done today

Looking forward to another summer driving to the sound of turbocharger

When to sell?

Maybe when the engine goes bang...
