EGR cooler on Octavia Ambiente 1.6 TDi

Featured Replies

I own a 2010 Octavia Ambiente 1.6 TDi with 33000 kms on clock.EGR cooler went

and as car was out of warranty I was going to have to pay for repair (approx 900 Euro). However after some negotiations Skoda paid 100% cost of parts and the garage paid 30% of labour costs leaving me a bill for 300 euro.

I am writing this as a warning to all Skoda owners as I am informed that this( EGR cooler) is a fault with a lot of Skodas.

Got the dealer check my 2010 Scout over as warranty runs out next week & had noticed a noise that sounded like air escaping / blowing from engine compartment. Thought it might be a leaking vacuum hose but they have diagnosed EGR cooler fault, booked in to have it replaced under warranty. They want it for 3 - 4 days, very glad I'm not paying. So another one around the same age.

Same here. 2010 Octavia 1.6 TDi. 133500 km. The mileage is very high - and so is the quote of €944 to replace the EGR. I was about to say no when the service adviser then informed me that Skoda would cover the cost of the part and 10% of the labour. It's on the basis that the car has been dealer serviced since purchase.

But I'm still dumbfounded. How can a job that costs a couple of hundred quid in the UK cost about 3 times as much here. And labour is €80 an hour and they said 5 hours. That's €400. €500 for a EGR? It's ridiculous. Anything other than normal service items seem to be over-priced.
