Warrantry Again

Featured Replies

4 or 5 months ago I was considering whether to change our Yeti when it got to 3 years old and the warrantry expired.

I mentioned this to the salesman at my local Skoda dealer and he asked had I considered Skoda's add on warrantry which he said could be taken out on any Skoda vehicle at any time for 1 or 2 years extra provided it was still under the original 3 year warrantry and had been fully serviced by Skoda from new.

From what I recollect it was around £300 for 1 extra year or £640 ish for the 2 years.

I asked to see some info but as there was only 1 booklet available he did a print out of the main items of interest which I found rather vague and open to easy get out options by Skoda.

I did inquire if the Skoda roadside assistance was included and was assured it was.

Also told that this warrantry would be exactly the same terms as the original 3 year one, except for loom coverage.

Has anyone else come across this offer recently? or has it been superseded by the add on option when buying from new?

I've added this warranty to my order for our new L&K. I was told this could only be added before registration and did not included RAC assistance. They would have offered an extended warranty to our current Yeti but it was something in the order of £450 for one year, not sure about then exact figure.

I took out the 5 year/100,000mile extended warranty after placing my order (wasn't available at the time, but became so before delivery) and was told it's exactly the same as the 3 year - RAC cover included. That was £640 this time last year.

Prior to P/Xing the Yeti I enquired about the extended warranty for it as it approached the three year mark.

It struck me as a bit costly at well overthe £600 point for the additional 2 years. It covered everything as if it was still under the original, three year warranty. I may well have decided to do it - if I hadn't been massively distracted by the 'Berb in the showroom!

On reflection I think that it does represent good value for money, and a good idea for those keeping a car way past three years.

Alternatively, find a good VAG specialist to look after your pride and joy.

Put the £600 in a flexible ISA,or a jamjar under the bed.

If nothing really untoward happens you'll have a nice little bonus come Xmas.

Same here for our Fabia Monte C; dealer stated RAC was included. If true then £250 vat free for two years was more than a steal :)

This is a farce! All these different figures from Skoda themselves and different dealers...

I'm hoping Lee at Preston Motors will come back to me , as he promised, to add more flesh to the bones.

I say again, I was quoted £ 419 for one year - inc. RAC breakdown - by Skoda Head Office....and £595 by a dealer for the independant, insurance based, Car Care Plan (no breakdown cover).

Finally got info from local Skoda dealer which I AM NOT CONVINCED is right as again very vague

in a can't be bothered to check type of mode he was in at the time.

Figues quoted as £540 1 yr (no RAC cover)...£650 (ish) 2yr extra (again no RAC COVER).

How much to add RAC..."ABOUT £40" but again vague on what cover included.

Skoda dealers really need to get their act together if this is the best they can do.

Seems from on here they make it up as they go along.

Following maybe of interest:

Rang Skoda UK Customer Care to enquire about extending warranty (not the one you purchase on

initial car order).

Asked if I was talking to an official Skoda UK employee (M Keynes)? Reply "Yes but I work in Leeds"

The gist of conversation was the only official Skoda product is the one purchased on first car order.

The other option is to ring 08445738000 and talk direct with Car Care Plan (not a Skoda company,

but an associate/partner who know how we work whatever that means.). The cover they offer includes RAC to the same level as the Skoda 3 year deal (needs confirming in the small print I expect).

Asked about cost and was told "you will have to talk to them direct".

So it appears from above if you can believe it (can you?) UK DEALERS are not offering an official

product as it doesn't exist!

Maybe that's why we get different stories/prices on this forum.

BUT HEAR COMES THE GOOD NEWS!! (If you can believe it LOL).

They are bringing out an official Skoda version of the extended warranty for purchasers who

didn't buy on first purchase. No details available as to when.

When asked why Dealer information is so confusing response was "it's up to them what they offer".

Just repeating what I was told so don't rely completely on this posting.

Explains the run around I got from our Dealer.

Good efforts so far Kibby, all seems a bit of a mess, Be interesting to see how the different warranties work out, it would be good to get a 'proper' Skoda warranty, but not at stupid money.

I had warranty direct cover on my x-trail when it was 7/8/9 years old and the only claim I ever made was for a seized caliper, I paid the excess and for the consumables(pads&discs) and they paid the rest, including all labour, I thought it was a pretty good deal, for less than £350 a year, they also helped advise me when a dealership tried to get me to change all four shock absorbers, due to the rubber Gaiters being tatty. Didn't go back there!

Notwithstanding the above post ..... I contacted Lee at Preston Motors who offered to send me everything he has available re the extended warranty and I also rang Car Care Plan in Yorkshire.

I'm now clearer in my mind because they ( Car Care Plan Ltd Jubilee House 5 Mid Point Business Park Thornbury West Yorkshire BD3 7AG) have confirmed that it is them who administer the "official", Skoda approved extended warranty - the one you would get if you rang SUK and asked for extended warranty.

I mistakenly thought that Car Care Plan offered an alternative to Skoda's extended warranty.....but not so....CCP IS the Skoda extended warranty and the only alternatives are people like Warranty Direct who are independant.

They did say that the figure £419 (which I was quoted by SUK a week or so ago) was one year cover including RAC breakdown. This has now gone up to £449 (since early April).

They said that they (CCP) can only offer one year contracts to customers who contact them direct whereas dealers can offer two year contracts (as was indicated by my being given the figure £595 by Marlborough for two years) ..... He said the dealer can decide how much they want to charge....(probably within certain limits?....this may or may not include breakdown - I didn't ask at the time)

Hope this may clarify things...although the above post post may supersede things shortly?

So - the official Skoda extended warranty is, in fact, CURRENTLY administered by Car Care Plan albeit an insurance based product (thought to be underwritten by an insurer in the Netherlands according to CCP on the phone today).

Ugh Car Care Plan!

I'm sure the company is ok but when they were based in Bramley (Leeds) their claim line was one digit different to my parents home number.

If i never hear the name again it will be too soon....

My folks got about six wrong numbers a day with pee'd off customers about claims. :@

I have just got a quote for Warranty Direct

main dealer: 1 year: £477 2 years £906

independent 1 year: £367 2 years £697

So, not cheap, but still cheaper than a new DSG gearbox!!!!

As ever this had to be an individual decision. Obviously any insurance company (= warranty provider) is going to try to make a profit in any transaction, despite what some contributors here seem to feel (that it should be given to them real cheap).

In that contract they agree to underwrite any expense you might have for repairs.

Your decision - and it really is this simple- is to work out if the cost of cover is worth it in your own estimation. There's nothing sinister at all in this being subbed out to a third party.

There is never something for nothing in anything, which means there's a cost for us all in everything. I suggest you accept that and life will seem so much easier to cope with!!

Which of the 5 levels of Warranty Direct cover in the link below are those quotes for?

http://www.warrantydirect.co.uk/summary_m.html

As with all such policies, the devil is in the detail. Even the most comprehensive one (Luxury Care), which covers "almost all mechanical and electrical components", has 2 pages of exclusions. Then there is a betterment clause, a limit on labour rates, the need to get servicing done within 30 days/1000 miles of the recommended service interval, a requirement to get the camshaft drive belt changed in line with manufacturer's recommendations and so on and on. There is also a limit on payout for parts as the car age and mileage increase above 6 years or 60000 miles.

I have paid for both types of warranty when I had my Mk 1 Octavia and neither gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. I am waiting to see what the Skoda-endorsed extended warranty has to offer when my current Octavia's official warranty expires in December.

It was the Luxury Care one.

They rang me up yesterday and are sending me a revised quote, as I'm a previous customer and an IAM member.

I know all about the exclusions.

On my Octavia Mk2 I had to have the DMF replaced, they paid about £800 from a bill of £1200 and then paid about £400 towards a new air con compressor , bill was about £1200.

All reduced due to mileage and exclusions. But better than a kick in the teeth.

I only paid about £700 in premiums over 2 years.
