NOT the usual remap question

Featured Replies

Afternoon all. I promise this isnt the usual well travelled remap thread. Spoke with insurance other day to c what the quote wud b like if i had remap. 60 quid increase for 10 percent increase. Thort fair enuf so on my 170 that wud give me 17bhp to play with. But if say the car was 195 or 200bhp which is where i want it for various keeping up with the jones reasons and its nice round number. Now i appreciate remapping can b seen if they choose to look which unlikely i know but wondering is the ecu going to b saying im a 195 remap rather than a 187 remap. I understand rolling road wud say but if the car has been smuushed not likely to happen. All hypothetical havnt made any decisions on what to do about remap yet. Google wasnt very helpfull on the subject but ive seen sum gd posts on remaps here b4. Thanks ppl

I would have thought that if they really want to know they would just go back and ask the company that mapped the car (Assuming you are declaring the car as mapped, all be it not as powerful as it actually is)

Engine's provide different power outputs on different days, given changes in temperatures, humidity, altitude, condition of air filter, fuel quality etc.... 187bhp today could rolling-road 170 or 200 tomorrow, and no two rolling roads are the same (most over-rate by +5% or so).

So, baring in mind that no insurance company will ever rolling road check a "chipped" or "remapped" car anyway, I would say that you will be safe. Just declare it as a fuel-economy map which provides 10-15 more bhp as a bonus.
