1.6 FSI vs 1.4 TSI

Featured Replies

Hi there

I've recently bought an early Mk 2 FSI 1.6 Elegance and very pleased with it.

I'm already thinking ahead and planning to get a 1.4 TSI at a later date. Is there no question that the turbo is better given that its more economical, nippier and has more power? What does it sound like on the motorway in comparison and can it still get a family of four around at least as well?

Any thoughts would be welcome.

My Dad had an A3 S-line with the same engine and whilst it wouldnt set the world alight it was very impressive. Drove like a torquey 2.0 petrol engine and was very relaxed at motorway speeds (his was a 7 speed s-tronic - Audi speek for DSG so had a v long 7th gear).

Given the engine puts out nearly 150lb/ft torque, a figure the 1.6 doesnt get anywhere near it will hawl 4 people and luggage around considerably more effectively than the FSi will.

It's a smooth quiet engine that will cruise at motorway speeds. It has good low down torque and driven sypathetically you should get mpg in the low 40's. You'll need to test drive one to see if it's right.for you though.
