fabia vrs mk1 speedo fuel needle fault

Featured Replies

As some may have seen from previous posts I had been experiencing a speedo and fuel needle issue in wet weather. The problem started with the speedo and vcds pointed to os abs sensor. Changed that including hub yet the problem still occurred. Changed the other side including hub and still it went off. When the dry weather came and the speedo worked i turned my attention to the wiring. After many long nights of taking parts off and searching around the engine bay wiring loom I seem to have found the problem. Under the scuttle panel behind where the ecu sits there is the wiring loom and it feeds through a rubber bung and drops into the engine bay. Well i found that water and silt etc was sitting around the bung and finding its way down the loom. Obviously silt was rubbing over time and wearing through. I have tidied up the wiring (yes a few cut knuckles as its awkward to get at) I have sealed the area around the bung and also drilled a small 5mm hole through the bulk head into the engine area and piped it down to the bottom of the engine bay to drain to the ground. To test it i took it to a car wash and lanced the area for a while and a few days later including journeys in the rain and so far so good. No more ecl no speedo stopping working and no fuel needle issue. All back to normal.

I thought id post this as I know its frustrating if you have this issue and you wonder what the heck is happening.

Thanks for posting this up. Another one to keep in the back of the head just in case.

No probs. It was frustrating lol

I should point out I reset the abs sensor code in vcds after changing it and it stayed off but it did bring up implausible signal to ecu when wet. Obviously struggled as it was wetting the wires. I did run the check in the dry but at the time wasnt aware of the wiring fault.
