Two weeks and 1200 miles into the ownership of my new Octy 2.0 tdi Elegance estate a real problem has emerged (as well as the usual annoying rattles, creaks and buzzes). My first drive in the car was a 75 mile trip to Glasgow only moments after taking delivery. About 40 minutes into the trip I began to feel a bit of discomfort in my left buttock!. I thought that I had too much rubbish in my wallet (left back pocket) so I took it out. No relief.

This week my wife and I had a run up to the far north of Scotland and about an hour into the journey discomfort set in again.

On the way back I asked my wife to drive and she had the same problem in exactly the same spot. We went straight to our dealer on our return and short of me handing in the car so some stranger car take it for a 50 mile run to try it we are struggling to find a solution. Has anyone else had, or heard of this problem?. I am not oversize or particulary heavy and my wife is definatly not large or heavy. By the way, I specced the car with heated seats.

Apart from that, the car is lovely to look at, lovely to drive (short journeys).

Maybe ur seat has life of it's own and doesn't like being sat on

The mechanic (oops, "technician") pressed down on the seat and then went underneath to "pull something downwards ". Will try it out on the next long-ish run.

There was a good article about seating posture a month a so ago in AutoExpress, I was suprised how poorly people (myself included) set up their driving position. It took me about 3 weeks to find the 'sweet spot' after moving the seat up/down forward etc, don't forget the steering column adjustment as well. You'll find the pain in your backside is caused by your legs pushing back to much or at a slight angle to your back/spine. Look down at your position in the seat , you may be slightly twisted (so your wife says anyway). If you get a burning feeling I suggest turning the seat heating down from gas mark 5

I have the same estate and have had no problems. Most magazine reports say the seats are comfortable and supportive - especially over long distances. The only gripe from some people is that they are a little narrow due to the side storage. Is a spring misaligned? My estate is 3 months old.

I have the leather heated seats.

I did have real problems with back pain being caused by the Octy 2 seats until I lowered them a long way. Seems to have solved it but its still not as comfy as my old A4.

I think you may be right about a spring being out of line. This is also the garages opinion at the moment. Also glad that this seems to be an isolated case.

I've suffered from back pain for a ling time but the seats in my Bora didn't agrevate it. Not so in the Skoda, since taking delivery i've found that my back (low lumbar issue) is not well supported and this is causing me pain when I drive it in a morning.

The problem as I have it is the lack of support in the lower 3 inches of the seat back which in may case forces the pelvis to rotate. Add that to the lesser lateral support and it causes a constant twisting around the lower back that aggrevates my injury. Very disapointed as I love the car apart from this and there's no easy solution

Doesn't the Elegance come with adjustable lumbar support? Or is it that there just isn't enough of it in the right place? I was kind of looking forward to having half-decent seats for once!

Yes, my friend the Octy does come with adjustable lumber support. My Amby has it on the passenger side too. Also has height adjustment on both sides. As stated the steering wheel adjusts for reach and rake too, so you shouldn't have any problems getting comfy..eventually .

The adjustable support is not height adjustable and is too high up the seat back IMHO it comes into affect about 2" below shoulder blade height which is not where I need it. (i'm average build and height also). Mt friends A4 has height adjustable lumbar and I can get this in just the right spot

I have the Elegance and the seat is great for me, as said it does take a bit to find the best adjustment of all the controls but once found is perfect. I travel silly distances and have found no problem.

SNAP. I can't find a comfortable position at all, after 27000 miles and nealry a year. I find the lumbar support is too low down the seat though. The back of the seat curves forward too much. And the pedals are too close (or the steering wheel is too far away). Add to that the way that the seat fires you forwards the moment you pull the lever to move fore/aft so you can't just move one click forward or back, then it's almost impossible to get comfortable.

I'm 1m88 and I don't have such problems actually.

I have just returnend from a trip to Europe. Drove from Vienna to London during yesterday and this morning.

No discomfort at all on my Elegance. Have spent a bit of time since September getting the seating position correct. The last two days have proved that all is OK.

No, Drivers seat only. Passenger seat is fine comfort wise. The only pain then is my wifes driving!! :
