Help !!!!!

Recently had my MOT and the car passed but had an advisory ' play inner steering rack joint ' had this sorted last week and everything has been fine but then yesterday there was a slight grinding noise when steering left and right when parked up .. and now today when i steer left there is a terrible loud grinding noise and the steering wheel seems to turn more to the left to reach full lock and is very stiff ... ie one and a half turn to reach full lock to the right ... but maybe two or more turns to the left and gets very stiff

Any help appreciated

Not to worry you or anything but its possible this might be serious. This is just a possibility and I wouldn't say 100% without checking the car myself....

...But anyway, the inner steering rack (tie rod end) screws into the steering rack. if these arnt tightend correctly and unwind the steering will go off and start to tilt the steering wheel... What I mean by this is when the wheels are straight on the car the the steering wheel might be slightly tilted one way.

An important question here is, Did you get your tracking done after the work was done?

could be serious as hutchy said ^^^^ but could be simple and just a coincidence like a dying top mount

Cheers for the replys

No the tracking wasnt done .. but ive noticed the tracking is off now .. pulling left

Also I noticed if not holding the steering wheel tight its very twitchy/moving left and right when going over bumps

Cheers

Tracking not being done is slightly strange unless the garage didn't have the kit. At the very least they should have recommended you get it done.

Sorry my mistake the tracking was done !!!!

Well if its getting worse I'd take it back to the garage and ask politely for them to have a quick look over the work as somthing doesn't feel right. It might be somthing simple as the check nut on the rack being loose, but could be major such as the rack end it'self becoming loose... not wanting to scare you but if that comes off, you'll know about it! The car would be a right off!!

At the end of the day it's only an Internet forum and everything's just guess work, get the car looked at by a decent mechanic and hopefully they'll sort it out free of charge :)
