Sticking inlet valves on Octavia SLXi 20v turbo (petrol)

Featured Replies

I own an X-reg Octavia SLXi Petrol 20v Turbo Automatic bought 2nd hand in Jan 05 from Skoda Main dealer and maintained by them.

Just over 3 weeks ago I suffered misfiring when in top gear between 1800 & 2000rpm.

The garage initially replaced the plugs but the problem recurred; they then replaced the coil packs. The problem continued and became worse. Last week they removed the head and it appeared that 5 inlet valves were sticking but they cannaot find the reason for this. The car is covered by an extended Skoda Warranty.

The warranty company sent out an inspecting engineer on Monday. As my garage could not positively identify the cause of the fault the warranty is not being honoured.

The engine is now to be reassembled and tested.

I have no complaint against my garage who have been helpful and open throughout.

Has anyone come across this problem before?

Many thanks in anticipation

I had something similar on my old Octy. I used to regularly dose it with Redex to keep the issue at bay, however the head never came off so I can't confirm it was sticking valves. It's not unknown, however, one of our technical contacts suggested this as the likely cause of my problem.

Buy good fuel.

Many thanks.

I have been using Sainsbury's unleaded. What do you recommend?

John

Drop a tank of optimax or ultimate through every once in a while. You'd probably want to buy the 'super' version of the supermarket fuel ?

my current car has sticking valve symptoms. goign to give in an oil flush first before I do anything else
