How long would Wax stay on a car?

Featured Replies

Possibly a bit of an open ended question here, however how long should wax stay on a car?

My current scenario is that I washed, polished and waxed the car last weekend with meguires products and was going to give it a quick wash now with just a wash and wax (2 in 1) product on the assumption the motorway grime should be fine as I waxed the car last weekend.

If your car has been waxed then a decent Shampoo is all thats required. Meguires Gold is ace, but it contains no wax, pure soap.

I read somewhere that Wash and wax ( 2in1) doesn't do the Wax any good

Most of my Cleaning/polish/wax is Bilt Hamber

I'm using a meguires ultimate wash and wax 2-1. Ill just chick this over it for this week before tomorrow's rain comes and then see if I can re-wax it in the week if needed.

+1 for wanting Chris to reply lol!

Depends on the wax, some last months.

For now I used meguires endurance liquid wax

Or you could use Opti coat 2.0 and never need a wax again?

I've been waxing cars for 27 years but found the Opti coat 2.0 and haven't looked back since.

Tell me more... :-)

Is this a paint sealant in effect then?

No Opti Coat is a clear resin much like giving your paint another coat of lacquer, its not something to be tackled by anyone i wish people would realise that, get it wrong your in trouble.

If you want a durable wax then Collinite 476s

All products...Waxes and Sealers have their own durability length but many factors also come into play

How often you wash the car

With what products

A lot of salt on the road in winter

Generally speaking...Shampoos that are pH neutral will make your waxes and/or sealants last longer

Shampoos with wax in them are OK too but wont add much to the finish or durability

Quick detailers help a lot in prolonging the durability

What do I use?

I dont use sealers because I prefer a wax and reapply that more than is probably needed..LOL

In the Winter: Collinite 845 Insulator Wax........Very very durable and good reflectivity. Great on alloys too

In the summer: Zymol Titanium.....lovey high Carnauba Wax content..Good for 4 months+ before re-applying

Quick Detailer (QD) ..Bilt Hamber Auto QD...I use it as a drying aid...apply to a freshly washed and rinsed car before you dry it

Hope this helps

Chris

Well it started to spit down and I'm happy to report it's beading away nicely.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll use up what I have here and order some individual shampoo and a good wax which will more likely be in a month or two.

Thanks
