No cold air?

Featured Replies

Seems like this is a bit of a common one but wanted to check a few things. My car is a '06 with Climate Control

After checking the AirCon ECU it looks like it was low on Gas so I have had it re-gassed (They commented that it was empty!) Once all filled up I still had no cool air :( At least I should be able to get a refund.

I've connected up VCDS and it looks like the compressor is turning..

If i press the ECON button then the load and rotations on the Compressor drop to 0 indicating it is turning and its not jammed but when you press it you can't hear any change in noise from the engine bay so I am not sure if that means the clutch is not working??

I notice that the bolt on the end of the compressor pulley does not turn with the belt - should it??

Any ideas what else I can check to diagnose which part it will be.

Hoping its not going to be a compressor!

I believe the compressor spins on the Octavia whether the A/C is on or off.

It is for this reason the compressor is a weak point as the bearings wear quicker than most others.

As above, my money would be on the compressor.

They all do that nowadays. The gas circulates all the time to keep the seals lubricated, preventing loss of gas due to them drying out. Safer for the environment and all that. I don't think you see compressors with a clutch on new cars any more.

Yeah everything I have read so far points to the compressor being dead :(

Looks like when under max load (i.e. when set to LO) the most i get is around 1.2Nm of Load and the Pressure is sitting at 3.4 bar which looks very low.

Hmm after having another look this morning I also noticed what might be another problem.

I've read that the AC radiator fan should always run when the AC is on. Using VCDS it does show that its requesting to to spin (slowly but still spin) but I have not seen the fans spinning at all (and thats also being reported by VCDS)

Does this mean I also need a replacement fan as well :( Will have to try and get the multi-meter out on the plug although annoyingly its at the bottom of the fan housing not the top.
