Running in Question for VRS

Featured Replies

Have been driving my new fabia vrs since i got it 2 days ago,am in love with the thing. Haven't been revving past 30,000. Trying my best to "take it easy". But I have "floored it" manytimes to see what it could do, but always changed up when the rev counter reached 30,000. However i've just read the manual and it says not to use "full throttle" when running in. Excuse me for being a thick fool, but does this mean i have done damage by depressing the accelerator all the way down despite not over-revving? Don't want to damage my new baby!

I really hope you mean 3000 rpm and not 30000...

Told you i was a dim dolt! Yes, 3000rpm

Always read your hand book for the manufacurers recomendations.

My recomendation - allow the oil to warm up of a morning [around 15 mins] then batter the hell out of it - like it is stolen. This will result in it being a 'quicken'.

Enjoy

Andy :)

30000rpm diesel! Thats the future that is!

On a more serious note, just don't thrash the nuts off it for the first thousand miles or so. The most important things are to not work the engine too hard until the engine is up to temperature. Also make sure you vary the revs as much as possible while running it in. i.e. don't put the cruise on at 70mph and cruise to Inverness and back and think its run in properly!

Its also a good idea to keep an eye on the oil level. While mine only used half a litre in the first 5k miles, many people have used much more than that!

Just enjoy it - but don't abuse it. I think babying the engine won't do it much good.

So you don't think i've caused any probs by using full throttle?

I did pretty much the same as this tbh, although I didn't take it over 3.5k rpm until it had done 2k miles. Now it gets red lined every so often, just to ease things along and keep the engine nice and clean...

As long as the engine is up to temp, then no! Just give it some beans! ;)

Thanks, will do, i must admit i do like embarrasing chavs in their Novas!

Main thing as mentioned is to warm it up. I went for 3k max for the first 500 miles, 3.5 for the next, i.e up to 1k on the clock. Then 4k. Not bothered much beyond that although I do give it a good blast at least once a week, revving higher than I would normally do to clean out any junk.

The PD160 air intake makes it a lot easier to hit 4.5k in 3rd - less restrained I suppose ;) Not gonna mention the performance in higher gears as depending on gearbox-year you may be doing 3 figures already in 4th at those revs.

I've not had any trouble with (relatively standard, at a guess) Nova-embarrassing stuff. And although revving it makes it more effective in doing so, just accelerating firmly but 'like a gentleman on a Sunday afternoon' will still get ya past :D

Warm it up, then drive normally. If that means caning it, then so be it. Just drive it how you intend to drive in the future, and if that means quickly, then for gods sake, drive it quickly now.

Remember to let it cool off after you've been driving it quickly; a 30 seconds delay should suffice.
