Hello mate,

got it out the box etc, put card in, switched on, and all is well. There are preloaded maps on the card, but i have no roads on the screen and can get it to route to anywhere.

Are you indoors?

They need a GPS fix to plan a route unless you manually input a start point.

You should however be able to select the MAP function and then zoom and pan around the UK.

My Father in Laws 610 had a currupted data card and the bottom half of the UK was blank. I had to hook it up to the PC, delete all the maps that were on and download them back off the CD.

I have been outdoors and drove around. it showed speed and had an arrow pointing to nearest main road, but no roads. ill try rewriting the card as you did.

I erased memory card and rewrote it, and it now works fine. Thanks for the tip.

No Problem.

I'm very impressed with the Navman, you will have to play with the route settings a bit until it suits your driving. Only thing I find poor is the 5 digit postcode search.

I have the Urban Roads preference and Motorway preference both set on full. The quickest/shortest selector I have one click away from quickest.

Dont forget to download the speed camera database.

Yes, seems a nice piece of kit. Already downloaded camera database cheers. Had a drive about tonight and it all seems ok. Bit slow to re route and in fact calculate a route, but i might be expecting too much.

Any of you guys tried the full EU version as well, I'm very tempted to get one of these things I must admit.

Can you connect other detectors to it like Gatso/Laser or will you need yet another device for that ?

If you want full EU then the 650 is the best as it has full western Europe loaded onto it's internal hard drive. You can download all sorts of gatso and road camera info but there isn't any facility to connect laser detectors.

The 635 and 650 have an automotive rated screen and are very bright but they are expensive against the competition. TomTom are launching a TomTom Go700 which will have an internal hard drive, EU mapping, and blue tooth for hands free phone calls and traffic updates. Might be worth waiting to see what the Go700 is like before buying a Navman650.
