Boring-In a good way!

Featured Replies

My July 2008 Octavia Vrs estate PD (silver) passed 50000 miles at the weekend. Aerial base changed at 12 months, Egr at 30000 miles. 2 sets of tyres. That's the sum total of non- service expenses. Pretty damned good in my book. I'd like to get a new one but cannot see the point !! The longest I've owned a car.

My feelings exactly. My 06 vRS estate tipped 80k at the weekend and looking around, the only thing for sensible money that'd suit us is another vRS estate but I can't see the point in putting 4/5/6k towards what'd essentially be the same car with different headlights and a newer plate! Just gonna run it and run it!

Had mine since new(2006), now on 64K and no problems at all other than service, brakes, tyres.I don,t see the point in changing it now.Its just too damn good :)

Likewise. My 08 1.9PD Elegance estate has just sailed through its MOT at 55,000 miles. It's had 1 new rear tyre (puncture), 2 sets of front tyres, timing belt and pump changed at 4 years, aircon service this year...and other than proper servicing at my VAG dealer, there's nothing to report. The discs and pads are barely worn, everything works as it should, no rattles or squeaks and inside the cabin, you can barely hear the engine. A lovely economical and reliable car. When the new generation of estates have been out long enough for the prices to fall, I'll get another - maybe a 4x4, because this one's crap on snowy roads.

I've had my vrs estate for 8 years and now hitting 136000 ish :giggle: every time i think of changing it puts a smile on my face … same question … should i spend £££ on a newer version or just keep going as it don't seem to let me down …. well its still here

Exactly! i had a 51 plate octavia mk1 1.9 SDI on as a taxi, had it from new and got rid of it in 2005 and it ran till 220,000 and still could have done more easily but had to change it due to council requirements, never had any unnecessary repairs, just a clutch, flywheel, brakes, tyres, oil, filters, ETC the only real problem i had with it was the one of the gear linkages kept snapping, happened about 3 times but the part was always replaced under Warranty and it was later recalled for a thicker part and that was the end of that, except from that niggle the car served me well and i have told countless taxi drivers, always buy VW,Skoda,Audi, seat as they will last the longest not those rubbish insignias and mondeos

Just part ex'd my CR vRS yesterday after 2 years 9 months and 26000 miles and my only costs have been one variable service, two front tyres and a litre of oil. Only one trip to the dealer in that time, best car I've owned!

Now at 58000

Nothing to report! No problems at all.

I was thinking of chopping it in for a new one, but when I specced the Vrs Estate I wanted it came out at close to 29K!

Its not 4x as good as the one I own, so my minds made up. Run it into the ground!

I bought the car @ 1 year old or 13K in 2009. I reckon its easily worth 6 now, WBAC nominal offer is 7K. So 7K for almost 5 years motoring, cant be bad.

Mine is a 2012 CR VRS estate in black with sat Nav.

It is now 21 months old and has just had its 40k mile service, which is the first service I have payed for (expensive for what is an oil change).

The only cost so far has been 4 new Conti tyres at 32k miles.

The car is great value but the dealers are very expensive for servicing, I think they have forgotten that they are still the VAG budget brand.

The Mk 3 is not different enough to interest me so I will keep mine until I retire in 5 years time and then find something else.

2007 TFSI just shy of 80k for me.

Teves 60 replaced last year and both rear hubs due to rust on the ABS sensor ring.

That's it so far.

Oh, and one brake bulb.

I'd actually like a change but can't afford anything I like more than the VRS.

Yawn!! 58000 miles now. 1 DIY oil change & pollen filter in the last year. That's it. Still playing 'cambelt roulette' though, will follow the European model & get it done @ 7 years.

Blinking good car. Still on the original brakes, maybe I don't drive it as I should ;)

Every year I think I should change. But what for? I couldn't justify spending 15K + mine for a new one..

Edit - I did get the aircon recharged @£40, as it was a bit 'tired' icey cold now....

53000 on my 2008.

Teves Mk60 fault, window regulator failed (both went the same week!), rear washer jet replaced, air-con leak (surprised how cheap that one was).

About 600 pounds in repairs so far.  Could be worse and most of that was the Teves Mk60.

Touch wood.

Running great now after a service last week.  Still enjoy driving it and its got loads of life left.

That cambelt is getting on, why wouldn't you get it changed, I would say fair enough if you were sitting at 30 or 40k and 7 years but not that age and miles.

Battery changed last week @6.5 years (£55 EuroCarParts) & 65k miles now. No other problems at all. Still the most reliable car I've ever owned..

DIY service @ 60k, about £70 for the parts & a couple of hours cursing

I really should get the cambelt/waterpump done, waiting for Skoda (450) to drop to VW (350) which they are bound to soon...
