You probably know which one im talking about, its the one just before the exit for tranent, on the A1

That's irrelevant

I'm not the one posting on a public forum asking the question

And I've never had a NIP or a point on my licence in 29 years of driving

Next question

Just because you've never had points doesn't mean you've never exceeded the limit. It just means you've been lucky enough to never have been caught.

do you think its possible to get a speeding fine from a camera on the opposite side of the road???

I have made it easier for you to understand the OPs actual question.

How very, very patronising, but thanks for pointing it out

Maybe I'm just slow, like my driving :)

I had the same a couple of years ago - a gatso flashed as I was going towards it ( and not a dual carriageway) - no ticket though ! As far as I am aware the older gatso type box can only produce a winning photo for the police if you are on the same side of the road.

there aren't any speed cameras on the edinburgh city bypass?

It was on the A1 between musselburgh and tranent, your right i called it that by mistake.

On a dual carriageway near Bath there's a rear facing gatso on one side of the road. 10 meters on from this is one of those raised lay-bys for police vehicles which a camera van is occasionally parked on. At this point most people would think 'Why have a police camera van set up straight after a gatso?'

A cynic would say that it's to catch out the same person twice. As a matter of fact they use it to catch out cars on the other side of the road! It's sneaky because the lay-by is strategically built on a corner so that traffic on the opposite lane are directly facing the camera van. Since it's on the other side of the road it takes a few seconds to realise it'll get you.

Been flashed by a gatso facing towards me as well. The one at the prison in Edinburgh. 2 weeks came and passed and heard nothing.

Lesson learned a bit, the flash in your face at night time certainly gets your attention.

Apprently Gatsos are not type approved for prosecuting you when heading towards it, I have no facts to hand though. Only my experience though, can't guarentee you won't hear anything.
