Rear tyres for Octavia II (2005 1.9 TDi)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm looking to replace the rear tyres on my Octavia and have realised that the rather high recommended fully laden tyre pressure (45 PSI) may limit choice. Annoyingly none of the main tyre selling websites seem to provide maximum inflation pressures, and neither do tyre manufacturer's own websites. Does anybody have any suggestions of decent tyres that are suitable? (Size 205/55R16)

I was looking at getting some Dunlop Sport BluResponse and am currently waiting for Dunlop to reply to a query I sent asking what the max. inflation pressure is.

Thanks for any help.

I'm sure if you look at the tyre specs and compare them you will find that the tyre pressure will be suitable. I think the letters XL after the tyre size mean something to do with heavy loading.

Or call around your chosen tyre stores/websites, they are the professionals after all.

That's what I'd assumed before, but when I replaced the rears about a year ago I just went by the usual ratings (205/55R16 91V) and picked some Bridgestone Turanza T001s. I never thought I also needed to check max pressures and these actually have a 40 PSI limit. My front tyres now need replacing, so I'll pop the Bridgestones on the front and get something that can take 45 PSI on the rear. (My current front tyres are Firestone TA300a and these also have a 40 PSI max. pressure, so higher may not be that common in this size?)

Dunlop have got back to me now actually and the Sport BluRespone tyres have a max. pressure of 51 PSI so I'll probably go for those.

Michelin primacy 3?

Michelin primacy 3?

Thanks for the suggestion. Definitely worth considering, but in the tests I've seen the Dunlops come out better, and are cheaper. So have decided to definitely go for the Dunlops.

Thought the pressure thing might be more of an issue but thankfully not!
