Tourist mode using VCDS

Featured Replies

Although I've have a few faults when I did the auto scan I thought I would see how to invoke tourist mode (I don't have maxidot). A search on google gave the following:

select control module 55 (xenon range)

select 10 adaptation

for normal xenons change channel 10 from 0 to 1

for adaptive xenons change channel 23 from 0 to 1

Seems straightforward, but on my 59 Octavia both channel 10 and 23 seem inactive. So the question is which channel relates to tourist mode?

It's possible that tourist mode for xenons is not available on your car.

I thought it was available from FL onwards, but it might have been later.

I'm pretty sure it is available because a while back in the dealer's customer car park a mechanic changed the xenon lights for euro travel. The young mechanic did it with a pc and a dongle (maybe vcds). I tried to see how he did it but he asked me to wait in customer waiting room. Did the same when I returned to UK.

Update:

went into module 55 and then adaptation 10, I then increased the value of channel from 00 up thru 23. At channel 2 a ballon appeared advising that this is tourist mode and that value 0 is for RHD and value 1 is for LHD. Looked promising so I changed value to 1 and ran another scan. Result=

I checked RossTech site for fault code 02988 and heh presto it confirms that this fault indicates tourist mode activated.

I didn't save the change, just in case. No fault light came on the instrument cluster, but may be this only happens if the change is saved. The dealer's mechanic (see post above) told me that a fault light will appear to confirm Euro setting and not to worry as it will clear when he changes the lights back to UK setting.

I see you are starting to find out just how powerful and versatile VCDS is. :)

Sorry to revive this but when I looked at channels 2 and 10, the values were all 1 already, while 23 is unavailable. Slightly worried this means my lights are misaligned although I get no faults. Is it something different on a pre fl??

Thanks

Adam

You should be able to notice if the headlights look misaligned when you drive at night.

I would say not but then I've never had xenons before. How noticeable would it be from inside? In another module (HVAC) I noticed my car country code was autodetected by CAN as Germany - is there a possible link here?
