Service + Extras

Hey there,

I Have owned my 2005, Superb, Edition 100, 1.9, 130bhp for about 8 months now, it has 43K miles on, and it is due a service.

I want to take it to a Skoda Dealer, but have never dealt with one before,

I emailed my local one, In York, and they emailed back quoting £249 for a full service, and suggesting that it will also need a cambelt change, for which they are quoting £349, or £449 including changing the water pump and coolant, which they say is recommended, Brake fluid change is £45. so all this for a total of £743, which does include VAT.

Now this seems a little over the top to me, but I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions, or knows of a better place to go?

That's truly ridiculous.

Just go to an independent garage. Or a VAG specialist.

I paid £70 for a full service, fuel filter, oil change, oil filter, pollen filter, air filter and £250 for the cambelt and water pump.

Where are you? My cousin runs a garage in Liverpool, it's a VAG specialist. Hence the cheap prices.

I'm near York lol I just don't know any reputable places round here lol

Is it just skoda or what, i got a price for a 20000 mile service on a fab 1.2 tsi ....£150 for bascially an oil change

It's not just Skoda; all main dealers are expensive as those flash polished up all glass buildings and pretty receptionists need to be maintained to a very high standard

Find a good indy or learn to DIY - there is plenty of info here and generic passat sites about everything you might wanna do yourself.

Depends if you plan to keep the car for long.

As I plan to run mine pretty much into the ground I do almost everything myself, and it saves me hundreds - the biggest problem is finding the time.

When I service my car, oil costs me £18, oil filter £7, fuel filter £15, air filter £5. Done in 30 minutes. No stamps, no rubbish - if you get a Sealey TP69 oil extractor through the dipstick tube, oil changes are a doodle. Worth considering. T/belt is a bit of a bigger job, but not impossible. I have never attempted it myself though as I like my weekends too much.

hi. doing the diy cars is no probs but what about the warranty.

Most used car warranty is not worth the ink, but if you have a decent one, then obviously you need to service it at a VAT registered garage that uses OEM quality replacement parts.

The 1st gen Superbs will mostly be out of warranty now. So that's mute.

Indeed, mine has no warranty. The servicing I could do myself, But I dont think I could change the timing belt, or the water pump etc, I just want to know the car is done right, but it is so hard to trust garages these days

True mate. I stopped trusting a long time ago, and every time I get lazy/too busy to do it myself and take it to a garage I remind myself of why I stopped trusting others with spanners!

I'm in York and I know a really good mechanic, he's cheap and won't rip you off, plus loads of taxi owners use him so he must know his stuff. Pm me if you're interested m8 and I'll give you his details.

I usually buy all the parts myself and also use a guy that works in a vw dealership and gives a really good price on parts.

Also DM Keith do a brisky discount when asked
