Maxidot and is it really worth it?

Featured Replies

Hey. Sorry if its been already covered but is maxidot really worth it to be switched to? How much does it cost and and how much to get swapped? I know it looks great, there are more functions you could change without vsd.... But is it really worth the money?

Yes ! It's great but in Ireland we get it standard anyway.

As long as its still a cheap (£100 or so) option it's a no brainier on a new order for me. If you're looking used then its quite important if two cars are otherwise similar.

Retrofitting it at expense I can't see the point in. Once you've altered the settings you're unlikely to touch them again. It looks nicer. It's nice to know which bulb is out without having to check them.! That's about it really.

It was more important to me before I had it than it is now

It's a nice to have but I wouldn't pay extra for it.

I used mine once when I got the car to set everything up and haven't touched it since.

Depends on your equipment level, makes attaching to bluetooth devices and seeing what's wrong with the car (bulbs etc) much easier. I use the trip computers a lot also. I would have paid for it.

Even though it was a low cost option Maxidot was out of my budget. I got the dealer to set my car up on collection and haven't thought about it since.

IMHO sometimes you can have too much choice of adjustment.

Its a must for me on my blackline.

love my maxidot and would have it on my next one as well.

Its an option I would have paid for. Problem is when I bought the car 5 years ago I didn't know its capabilities I thought it was only a fancy display rather than configuration and additional information readouts. The steeler was more interested in trying to sell me Life-shine and GAP insurance.

And, to be fair, it's not exactly a major/specialist job finding out which bulb has blown without MaxiDot ;) ;)

The first car I looked at didn't have it and I thought the instrument cluster looked a bit basic as a result. Glad the car I ended up getting had it especially as I have the factory xenons which means its really easy when I go abroad to change the beam. I retrofitted the oem blue tooth module which is also a lot better with maxidot.

Its a much nicer display and does allow you to configure some stuff on the car that you'd need VCDS for otherwise. I have BT and Sat Nav in mine and the integration is 1st rate. However I probably wouldnt go to the expense of retrofitting it unless it was cheap or I was going to the trouble of fitting Nav and BT also.

The difference in appearance is night and day on the pre-facelift MkII Octavia so the £75 is justifiable.

On the facelift it's much less of an improvement.

I think it's worth it just for the ease with which you can set the headlights for European driving. Plus it's great with blue tooth info.

MaxiDot is a must have for me. In my opinion it's most certainly worth it.

If its only 100 quid i think its worth a consideration definetelly. Where i could get hold of one, is it Skoda? Or breakers? Also could some one tell me about BT option, what do i need for it? Is it parrot system or Skoda brand? Thanks

Maxidot is great

Nav info in cluster

Better Trip Computer with Large Digital speedo (Facelift only)

Phone options and Text messages

Car set up

looks better

wouldn't be with out it

I retrofitted the Highline (maxidot) to my old golf

I know this might sound petty, but I wouldn't buy a car without it, definitely a must have for me, luckily it is a standard feature of vRS here in Ireland!

I have maxidot in my car (pre-fl mk2) and it does certainly look better than the standard cluster.

However, if your car doesn't have it I would suggest you'd be better off buying a genuine vcds cable as you can do more with it, you'll likely save on future diagnostics costs if you have any issues and when you come to sell your car you should be able to sell your vcds cable for near to what you will have paid for it.

Maxidot in a PFL is definately a must have. Facelift, a bit less but still. You'll spend alot of time looking at the speedo, having a Maxidot really makes a differance. It's not about setting options - You do that once (or you use VCDS) and you'll never touch them again. But maxidot looks a million times better when driving around!

I know now, it's much better to spend a bit more money (or get a car with a bit more mileage) instead of going for a low mileage low option car. While retrofitting things like Cruise Control or a Satnav are really simple, some things like Reversing Sensors integrated with the Satnav or Climatronic are just too expensive and difficult to retrofit. I can understand getting a new car with lesser spec, but when you're buying second hand you should always go for an Elegance. The toys are worth it!

Both looking good options. But i still think that maxidot for would be better because i like the looks and will be looking at the dash everyday.

So i will be looking out for one.

Thanks

My vote goes for maxidot. I had a pre FL without and now have an FL with.

I wouldn't class it as an absolute essential but is is a VERY nice to have. If you have sat nav and/or phone installed then the VERY gets much bigger.

Just one thing I don't like about it! On occasion I get away from work into the dales at lunch time, park up and sit in the car listening to the radio and having a sandwich. On the old pre FL car I could see the time in the non-maxidot dash display (and the radio display!); the maxidot blanks around 30 seconds after switching off the engine. Maybe the FL non maxidot is different.

It will be high on the options list when I replace my current car later this year.

Yes ! It's great but in Ireland we have no choice and are forced to pay for it anyway.

Fixed that for you :p

I missed out by not adding it to the order quickly enough. It's not dear and I wish I had it for the option and for the nicer dash display.

Not worth the hassle of adding later I think.

There is a thread on here somewhere similar to this I started when I ordered my car and problems getting it added to order, 7 days (after it should not be possible) before it was built it was finally added after had been trying for months and they kept fobbing me off. Final straw for me was them telling me after over 5 months wait, only way is to cancel order and place another in a threatening way. So I said DO IT give me my new estimated date please. Next day it mysteriously was on my order and I confirmed it with SUK lolol. They also when editing my invoice in end added it and somehow knocked off MDI so it saved me money in end.
