MK1 Fabia, not moving advise needed

Featured Replies

i have a 55reg 1.9sdi fabia, and as i was driving home from work today i lost all drive to the wheels, with the engine free reving.

i can change gear when the car isnt moving, but it feels like its only selecting first and the only way i could get it to drive was to have my foot right down on the clutch and rev the nuts off the car, and only then was it doing about 15-20 mph max's

does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong?

You mean the car wouldn't move unless you had the clutch pressed in and the engine revs high?

Or can you select 1st gear and it works normally in first?

Weird.

Broken drive shaft/CV joint?

sounds expensive if it is that

If it is a drive shaft or CV joint failure, the parts are not horrendously expensive....but when you add labour it could be a few hundred notes.

Are you handy with a spanner?

If it was a driveshaft you would know about it as there would have been a Big Bang or a persistent knocking noise when driving so doesn't sound like that.

Clutch has gone - possible centre has become detached.. It's moving at high revs with clutch depressed due to the release bearing causing pressure and drag on the spinning parts.

Hopefully cheap(ish) depending on whether any other damage done.

Please let us know what you find.
