Octavia 4x4 2.0FSI stutter

Recommended Posts

Good morning,

I have a 2004 octavia 4x4 2.0 FSI and recently between 2000-2500rpm when i accelerate the car give a shudder going past these rpm's......when it's past this range it's o.k. It has 108000km on the clock. It doesn't matter if it's cold or hot, even on the motorway if you "free" and let the rpm enter this range and push the peddal it shudder...shudders and then accellerates smoothly. Now i dont immediately want to take is to a dealer because the workshop rates here in sweden is out of this world expensive. I have checked the sparkplugs, they are good and clean(4point-bosch ones) no residues, the airfilter is clean, what could this be?..........Unfortunately i do not have the capabilities or tool to check faults codes

Any advice

Sounds to me like the same problem I have with my 2.0T FSI.

I am just about to change the actuator that controls the flaps in the inlet manifold that open and shut through certain parts of the rev range. I am guessing the 2.0 FSI will have these aswell seems its basically the same engine!

Once its fitted I will post up again and let you know the results. Plugged into diagnostics it does not come up with anything - the motor is just slow to react so the flaps are still opening while you are trying to accelerate, starving the engine of air...

Is it risky to drive with this "stutter". Is this actuator electronically controlled or by vacuum?

I have driven mine since September with the issue and taken it on a race track.. as you say its fine once you get past the 2500rpm stage. I have tried everything from Coil Packs, Throttle Body Clean, Breather Valve the lot. Then a VAG specialist had my car in for service and asked him to look at this at the same time and he found the actuator was moving of its own accord when the car was on static revs..

Its a electronically controlled unit...
