Oh great! I'm stuck in Northampton with my Skoda and it's stuck in reverse gear!

Featured Replies

All was going well with our new Skoda Octavia ( well new to us ) 2007

and it's stuck in reverse gear in a car park in Northampton. We live in Southampton.

Do I like Skoda right now. NO!

our 2002 old shape is sat at home and would have got us to Northampton and back with no issues I could put money on it

:-(

I'm thinking

Clutch gone

or

Gear box gone.

Either way I'm in a mess.. to be able to afford a new clutch and box I would have to sell the Mk1 Octavia and thats our only running car.

Should have stuck with BMW at least that was always electrical issues and I was getting an expert on the 5 series!

If you start the car with the clutch depressed does the car move?

it's worth giving the shift lever on top of the gearbox a shove in case its stuck or anything has got jammed in there

Gearboxes don't often fail like this; I think the problem is more likely something locking the gear linkage.

You sure something hasn't got trapped in the shift cables ?

It's quite possible along with the shift weight on the top of the gearbox. That can get quite a bit of gunk on it if people have greased it.

I've read a lot on Briskoda over the past 5 years. Not read about a gearbox problem.

More thank likely be the linkages. Happens often enough and happened to mine.
