Car cover query

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Ill be heading away in about a months time for a few weeks again and was thinking about getting a car cover for while im gone. I don't want to spend big bucks but something that will protect the car from the elements while I'm gone and won't damage the car in the process. So has anyone got one or know of one that will do the job? And can provide a few links.

Also, I recently (4 months) fitted a new Bosch S5 battery. Will this be ok sitting for 3 weeks until I get back?

Thanks,

Help appreciated.

Jordan

I often leave our car for anything up to eight weeks, if leaving for over four weeks I disconnect the battery, they always start first time.

I leave them in P or in gear with the handbrake off

Covers, advertises the fact you are not there, the billowing/flapping in the wind with a bit of muck underneath will do far more damage to the car than leaving it open to the elements ever will

Id not bother for 3 weeks. Battery will be fine too.

a few bits of dirt get under the cover you'll be getting the T-Cut out.

My Polos been untouched outside since August/September time and is fine. It started first time on Monday and has racked up a weeks worth of miles without issue.

The paint is fine, it was just dirty.

I don't plan on putting a cover on without the car being properly cleaned so there should be no dirt on fitting. As for dirt getting in I can't for see this? It'll be left in the drive which is a clean environment, and there will be others at home while I'm away so won't be left abandoned. I was worried about it drawing attention but I live in a fairly quiet area with good neighbours. Just need to make my mind up haha

Glad the battery will be fine tho, saves leaving the key with someone who can't be trusted lol

Do you have leaky doors? Worst thing I ever done was cover mine up and I thought it was bone dry at the time but must of been slight damp somewer as after I looked after 2 weeks the mold that had grown was unreal.

My house is worth about fourty times as much as my car......do you think I should cover that when I next go away ;-)

Superskoda do a 1/2 car one that clips under the wheelarches.

Can be issues if car covers flap about. Likewise, if the car's not clean when the cover's attached, any movement of the cover can cause grit to scuff the paintwork. Ideally, you'd cover it having washed it (and let it dry) and store it in a garage.

The whole point was the last time I went away the car was washed and waxed but by the time I come back the thing was stinking. So was Hoping to avoid that. Just laziness really lol plus the thought of bird **** lying for a few weeks and potentially damaging my laquer irritates me lol

Definately, if it makes you feel a bit better when your gone then go for it. I've never seen a cover for a house tho!

Googled house cover a this is what come up! Have a look!

Do you know any recipes for Swifts? Thought it might be OK on the BBQ when it wasn't covering the house.

If leaving a car sat in the open for a few weeks was detrimental to

It we would all be driving around in complete and utter sheds.
