At the ripe old age of 30 I am finally going to get a license and a nice little car to go with it. Hoping to find a clean, lowish mileage 1.9 Tdi Estate to practice in first, and eventually to lug around mountain bikes and go on holiday with. I helped my grandfather choose a Octavia Ambiente Tdi 10 years ago and it is still going strong, as a result or trying that car my mate purchased a Octavia Elegance Tdi, another mate was given a chipped Octavia 1.8T and he loves it! Another one of my mates runs a VW garage so I should be well sorted! Two other mates have TDis but in VWs.

Welcome to Briskoda and Skoda ownership! You won't be disappointed The 1.9TDi lump is one of the best, most reliable engines going IMO. If I were you I'd get as late a model Elegance spec as you can. That will almost certainly be my next car. That or an early MkII 1.9Tdi Ele spec estate.

Yup, have been looking at an Elegance estates on autotrader, looking to spend £2000 to £3000. Many seem to have 99k plus miles on them though! Was thinking around 70-80k would be better? The Fabia seems to tick all the boxes, low insurance, decent power, comfort, well specced also lots of unmodified examples to choose from....... plus I really like the way the car looks! (a bit weird and boxy)
