I know how the brisky crew like a good "what car should I get" etc etc so I have a car conundrum for you all to cast your thoughts over.

Me and the Mrs currently have my Fabia and she has a Fiesta ST. Now, I want something I can strip out smash round the track/hoon about in at weekends. The Mrs wants something else, she doesnt feel comfortable in the ST for various reasons.

So, I dont know what to do. Option one, buy another car for her, keep the Fabia for daily work and keep the ST for tracking. It handles well, nice and light and there are a fair few upgrades about. Simple mods (breathing/cams) can boost power to 190-200bhp twinned with around 1000kg weight should make for a fun car. The downside with this is although part of me says its about fun not speed, how long will a 200bhp/ton fwd car keep me happy before I want something faster or rwd?

Option 2, I flog/px the ST for another car and use the Fabia for tracking. Plus side, is the Fabia is quite well sorted, brakes/suspension bits, I'd make a few tweaks still. Downside is, similar to the last option, how long before I get bored? Plus a fully stripped Fabia will be tiresome for work everyday, so I'd be nicking her car unless she needed it (she doesnt need a car for work all the time)

Option 3, **** the Mrs, buy a E36 M3 as a toy and get her something in a year or so, keeping the Fabia as a daily. Plus side, well thats obvious, downside, no nookie for a while.

Hummmm, thoughts people?

So you would have the M3 to track etc?

Yeah, possibly doubling up as a bed if the mrs really throws a strop.

Get a Caterham/Westfield for the track and whatever the leftover cash will buy for the missus.

I'd second that ^^

Doubt I'd fit in one tbh, plus they seem to be a good few ££££

Depreciation is as low as a low thing on them.

As I said, if I got down the fwd route it'll most likely be the fiesta, underrated and a pretty good match for a Clio from what I've seen.

They are not cheap, those Caterhams and Westfields - fact. Fun factor? Unreachable by anything else - fact.

I think what you need is Fiesta or MX5 really... YOu do not want M3 as this would eat you alive in repairs and maintenance costs. Have an "off" in one and you stuffed - costs prohibitive imho.

Track toy stripped vRS with sorted suspension would make for a lovely track car - ticks all the boxes

Fwd track day cars are not as much fun as rwd, my best ever trackday toy was my r32 skyline gtst, very cheap to buy with masses of tuning potential and very very light. Unless you are a trackday god I would steer clear of caterham etc as you will ultimately end up frustrated at having a really capable car without the skill to actually get anywhere near its limits. Parts for the gtst are cheap second hand and general maintenance is easy for the DIY mechanic. The only down point is fuel econamy as they can drink a bit!!!
