2.0 tdi cr clutch 'thud'

Featured Replies

Last weekend, whilst crawling in heavy traffic, and towing a caravan with my Superb 2.0 tdi cr 140 manual (Mar 2012 - 13700 miles), i became aware that. when i brought the clutch up to its biting point to pull away, i could feel a faint thud through the pedal. It was not perceptable to my passenger. I thought it was perhaps simply due to slow traffic and clutch getting warm. However, since then, and without caravan, it has done it again occasionally, sometimes just after setting off, so heat can't be to blame. It does seem to be more likely to happen when steering is slightly turned though.

There does not seem to be any issue with clutch itself, no judder, pedal fine etc etc, and I sort of feel it could be perhaps driveshaft related.

Looking through the forum though that does not seem to be an issue with this (I had a Mondeo once which 'felt' the same and that needed a new universal joint on driveshaft) and would appreciate any thoughts from fellow Superb owners.

I intend to visit my local dealer here in County Durham, but from previous experience, they seem a little reluctant to ''carry out work unless they can send the part to Skoda so that they get paid!''. It would help if i could go 'armed' with a little information.

Any advice appreciated.

Do you have a dual mass flywheel ........?

I believe that it will but symptom does not seem typical dmf problems

Maybe something to do with the hydrolic system sticking. Slight delay in the oil getting pumped too/fro?

After driving my car a little more, I continue on to be aware of a slight 'thud' when pulling away on occasion.

However, today i have managed to replicate the sound/thud by slightly blipping the throttle without touching the clutch. Tickover at 800 RPM, blip to say 1000 rpm and no more otherwise usual diesel sounds.

This suggests that it not probably clutch related, but more likely to do with the slight rising of revs as you pull away.

Would anyone know whether when the engine idles and is out of gear with no foot on clutch, what does the engine turn over? Does the flywheel still connected and spins or is that on the clutch side?

I would appreciate views from anyone with a similar experience. Until recently i was never aware of this, so relating to idle of engine it gets me thinking more along lines of something vibrating perhaps?

Regards

Just an update to this. After some perseverance by my Dealer, the 'noise' was traced to a solenoid fixed to bulkhead that operates the vacuum pipes to turbo. New part fitted this morning and seems to be cured. Full marks to Derek Slacks in Middlesbrough. Excellent service in helping me sort this out.
