Need help removing drivers side internal vent.

Featured Replies

Hi Guys, just need a few tips on how to remove the small drivers side internal vent because the slats have broken & come loose.

I've got the surround off & can see two metal clips at the top. Is it just a matter of pushing these clips down & pulling the unit out? Or is it attached somewhere else?

Has anyone got any tips or tricks to help with this - thanks.

It comes out without removing the cover. If you can push those clips, there are some at the bottom too I think. It will just slide out then.

Don't remove the fascia. Just use two credit cards and push these in top and bottom and wiggle the whole unit out free

But dont the two top clips 'retain' the housing? I've tried wiggling the unit out using some pliers (at the bottom without the facia on) but its doesnt seem to want to come out.

Just done this job myself..

The vent is held in by 4 spring clips, you can see the ones at the top, there are two others at the bottom.. best technique I found was to pull/lift the bottom of the vent housing first until the two bottom clips are released, the vent should then slide out..

If your still struggling I'll try put up some pics if it'll help..

I hate that vent.. the others are always fine..

For some reason, the clips + dash seem slightly mis aligned (possibly on one of skodas dash moulds).. As a result, even when being carful it's quite easy to get the clips hooked up on the back side of the hole..

Perseverance and many wide flat utensils I'm afraid.. Dinner knifes and store cards ;)

Thanks guys - finally managed to get the vent out - just waggled it & it just popped out.

Spent most of last night superglueing the hell out of the vent housing to fix all the broken slat mechanism - who ever designed that needs a Size 10 boot up his/her arse!

Also repaired one of the slats that had a broken pin. Firstly, I tried to just glue the pin back on to the slat but it last all of two or three turns once it was back in the vent. So, I took a 1mm drill & VERY carefully drilled a hole into the slat, once I did this I inserted a metal fabric pin & glued it into the hole. Works perfectly!

One last question for you guys - Both my side vents 'squeak', especially in warm weather. I've heard that there's a solution to stopping this - anyone got any pointers.

Thanks.
