Air con needs regassing already?

Featured Replies

Hello,

Lot's of threads about air conditioninng recently - funny that!

My Furby is a year an two weeks old, I seem to recall that last year you could make it quite chilly with the aircon on full blast. However, this year it isn't even able ot get the car down to a comfortable temperature, although the air coming out of the vents is cool, it's not exactly cold.

Anyone know what might be up with it? Does it need a regas already?! I suppose the warranty doesn't cover this kind of thing.

Thanks for any help,

Robert

You need to get the fault codes checked, it maybe a fault posistioning motor for the temp flap or maybe a temp sensor failure.

When was the last time you used the aircon, the manual recommends using it at least once a week even in winter. This is to stop the seals drying up which then allows the gas to escape into the atmosphere.

I did run it a few times over the winter for that very reason. Car needs a service soon anyway so I will ask them to cast their eye over it, but it will have to wait until I get back from my hols!

Some of the dealers are offering free AC checks at the moment - obviously in a bid to sell you the gas with a big mark up - but at least you'll find out what needs doing.

I used to have a weird smell int he car because I used to smoke in it. It's been over 2 months now since I stopped smoking in the car and it smells wonderful inside :)

Yep definitely get diagnostic tools on it to rule out any sensors, etc as it shouldn't need regassing so soon. If it does need regassing, it should cost about 60 quid and take an hour to do......... :D

Shouldnt be a problem on the Fabia and the new Octavia, the compressors never switch off fully so gas is allways circulating.

Dunno about the rest of you but I still use my aircon, even in winter - primarily because it is a dehumdifier and stops the screen from fogging up. It stills surprises me that some people don't know you can use the aircon on "hot" as well as "cold" to clear your screens faster. I had no choice on my old nissan, switching the fans to the screen set the aircon on by default, you couldn't switch it off. Probably why I averaged 18mpg in it. That, and my right foot :D
