Fitting a new drop link

Featured Replies

Fitting my replacement drop link tomorrow. Is it a fairly straight forward job on the Octy? Does anyone have any instructions on the best way to go about it? I have replaced anti roll bar bushes on my last car(different job entirely) but nevertheless anything relating to anti roll bar seems to be a pain in the butt, hub assembly had to be removed and the anti roll bar was always causing stress on the components during the work!

Cheers,

Sam

Might sound obvious but make sure you have both front wheels off the ground. If you have just one off, the bar will have tension in it and will spring back when you take off the droplink.

The bolts on mine were seized solid so had to get heat on them to remove them.

It is one of the most easiest jobs on the car to do buddy.

1. Loosen wheel bolts both sides

2. jack front of car up on axle stands

3. remove wheels

4. drop link is attached to FARB and Strut so there are 2 nuts to remove. spray the nuts with WD40

5. You might want to turn steering wheel to expose the rear nut on strut to make easier but not really needed.

6. from memory drop links need a 18mm socket but some none OEM use a 19mm nut

7. You may also need a 15 or 16mm spanner to hold the ball joint in place when you use the socket to undo the nut

8. You also might want to jack up the disc/hub asm to allow the drop link to be pulled out easier as not under stress from FARB

Replacement is reversal

Thanks for this.

Got mine replaced in about 2 hours, didn't have axle stands so found it was easier to jack the car up, remove the wheel, remove the nuts from the drop-links, then put the wheel back on and drop it back down, then I could wiggle out the drop-links, then fit the news ones, jack it back up again, remove the wheel and fit the nuts back on.

A little bit tedious without all the equipment, but like you say, very easy.

I'll be doing likewise soon enough, once i decide on a couple of other bits and pieces i need -

probs order from ECP - more i get the better as theres only delivery charge to the ROI then...
