Strange noise from Fabia Estate Greenline II

Featured Replies

I have a strange sound coming from my 18 month old Fabia Estate Greelnline II.

I can only describe it as a sort of gulping noise, with an accompanying dull thud that I can feel (just) through my feet. It's not in any particular rhythm, doesn't vary with revs and is there whether the clutch is in or out. I only hear it while stationary but that's possibly because it's not that loud and tyre noise might be drowning it out while I'm moving.

It's booked in for investigation but I wondered if anyone here had experienced similar. I think it might be some belt or other occasionally fouling a part of the engine or body somewhere near the footwell.

Any ideas?

thanks

Difficult to be precise without actually hearing it. But when people used to come in complaining about a dull thud under the circumstances you mention, we immediately started looking at engine mounts, anti-roll bar bushes, and suspension components including springs. It could also be the exhaust system with perhaps a loose mounting. All those things can produce a thud type of symptom. It must be looked at urgently!

The dealer has checked the car and traced the source of the noise to some solenoid/pump thing mounted on the f/nearside wing. The part has been ordered and will be fitted soon. I've got a picture of it and will upload it once I've worked out how to.
