VRS odd jobs and fault finding

Featured Replies

Evening all

Spring is here and seeing as we should be due some nice weather at some point ive decided to get a list of jobs ready to do on the car so need to fault find and need your help!

Theres a few bits that need sorting so i will list the symptoms and would ask if you list your ideas on what to look at

Fault/Job1 When i accelerate normally in a high gear below 3k revs you can here it boosting but theres a slight gurgle to the sound any idea what it could be?

Job2: Replace all the pipes with silicone ones...(any suggestions on where to get a good set of inexpensive ones)

Fault/job 3 At exactly 3700rpm in any gear there is a vibration and slight change in engine note, when i put the clutch in this stops, and only happens when in gear under load....any clues

Job 4 Replace pads all round and replace brake fluid

Job 5 replace thermostat

thanks guys as always i look foreward to your help

Best Regards

Alex

ASH (auto silicone hoses) are good. You can buy them direct or through their eBay shop

Fault/job 3 I guess would be a gearbox or engine mount and 3700 just so happens to be the frequency that makes it move. Similar thing with my car at exactly 2000 revs and under load the exhaust changes note

Agree. Either gearbox mount, engine mount...

...Or i'll throw a third option out there - check your exhaust hangers all exist and the rubber mounts are good. If the engine moves, the exhaust will have some movement, and if the mounts are bad or hangers are missing? Yep, you'll get more travel and eventually have metal on metal contact somewhere = cabin vibration.

The hangers are notorious for breaking off.

Exhaust is brand new so would leaf me down the mont route...big job?

Not really.

Couple of bolts, about a fiver per mount. Just bits of rubber really mate.

You'll obviously need access to under the car though.

Check also the vacuum box steel mount on the top of coilpack 4, make sure the bolts are tight.
