Clutch or gearbox

Featured Replies

On the way back from my partners mums my gearbox started making a funny noise but I'm not sure whether its due to the clutch or gearbox I know that the real ease bearing has been a bit noises recently the noise disappeared when you pressed the clutch down is it possible for that to collapse I need to get it towed to unit 18 but I wanted to see if I could shed some light first

Thanks

"real ease bearing"? Did you mean the thrust bearing? If so, then the symptoms you describe could be a failing bearing yes.

Thanks I'm hoping tht it's salvageable a bit of a better discription is when your driving the gearbox sounds a little like a rally cars gearbox with te little whine goes when clutch is pressed to the floor and now it just sounds like something is kind of grinding sound but not if you know what I mean

Could possibly be the thrust bearing on its way out

It's the first thing I'd check; Unit18 will probably have standard and upgraded brearings and clutch kits (and SMF conversions too) in stock.

With the work involved in removing the gearbox I'd consider replacing just the bearing to be a false economy as a general rule.
