Wiring under rear seat

Featured Replies

Removing the rear seat squab so the seats would fold flat might be useful, but I'm concerned about what the wiring under there connects to. There are two connectors going into the squab - one each side - from which a cluster wires emerge. The clusters then divide, one half going off towards the front of the car (presumably that's the heated seats) and the other half heading rearwards. I don't think I've got rear side airbags - I can't see any airbag signs or labels and I don't think they're standard on the Elegance, are they? - but I don't want to bring up a warning light by disconnecting something important and then turning on the ignition. Any ideas what they connect to?

either rear side airbags or rear heated seats would be my guess

How about sensors that let you know someone is in the seat with no seat belt on?

Does your car have those in the rear?

I don't have heated rear seats and can totally remove the rear seat bases, so I suspect (as per racing boy) that if the OP has heated seats then it will be that.

Won't the back of the seats protect them -that's what happens in the Combi

It will be for the rear seat heating. Usually, each side has 4 wires for the squab and 2 wires for the backrest.

On some variants, you can find wiring to the seatbelt switches.

Thanks, all.

Ah, I'd overlooked the heated backrests - thought only the seats were heated. That could explain the backwards-disappearing wires. I don't think it will be seat belts, because the manual says warnings are given for driver and front passenger only.

Thanks, all.

Even when there is no warning for the rear seats, the wires to the seat belt latch switches are sometimes still there, so if you find 3 extra pairs of wires, that's what they're for.

Right. Thanks.

I'm glad this topic came up. The last time I played with the rear seats, I was totally put off moving the seat bases due to all the wires - thought it couldn't be right and stopped before I knackered something.

It's coming up time to get the kids' seats out and have a good clean-out so I'll take another look because I know one day I'm going to need all that boot space!
