smokey and less power after egr delete...

Featured Replies

As above really, checked all boost pipes..there is a hissing noise in the area of the intrcooler / alternator area, when accelerating I can hear a whooshing noise aswell as a lot of smoke..

I have booked it in too a garage on tuesday but ideally could do it myself..

Should have said the egr delete didn't come with a gasket..I have ran it with a paper gasket and without and made no diffrence

Possibly that seal, whack some instant gasket on it.

If it was fine before the egr delete and wrong after, it's probably the egr delete or whatever pipes you disconnected at fault.

It's not the blanking plate leaking either?

im also getting a hissingwooshing noise and a lot of smoke, only at really low revs and when I put my foot down thow. Checked all of the pipes and none of them seem to be leaking, haven't lost any power either so don't know what it could be

When I had a leak from the brass-coloured pipe from the manifold (yep - schoolboy error that most people do) I could feel exhaust gas on my hand which helped. Ironic as its brittle as anything despite looking like its flexible.

Open the bonnet and see if you can feel where it's coming from.

Intercooler/alternator area may suggest that the pipe from down there up to the 90degree pipe isn't fitted properly - check there. But if you don't have a gasket, then have your hand all around the egr and see if you can feel any gas escaping.

My original clamp on the silicone 90degree to egr delete wasn't good enough and I had screeching (hearing the turbo) as there was a ridiculous amount of leak - so your symptoms are pointing to post-turbo area too I think.

When the pipe from the exhaust manifold split was evident this was more of a whoosh/exhaust blow sound. Make sure you've removed this completely and blanked off at the manifold.

Also, you've got a leak - do NOT drive the car hard as you will over spin and kill the turbo. Best of luck and report back!

Egr is blanked at the turbo no leaks, all intercooler hoses seem fine lol,I might check the airbox and inlet piping and let you know :)

Oh I forgot to mention removed egr delete and the flange isn't true so after beating with a hammer ( pikey style I know ) it is a lot less Smokey so thinking of ordering a darkside or allard pipe ?

you will never get a good seal on to bits of metal if you been anywhere near it with a hammer, ;)

think your be all sorted then you get a good blanking plate.
