ADJUSTING HANDBRAKE CABLE ON A 4X4 CAR

Featured Replies

Has anyone found the need to adjust either of the handbrake cables on a 4X4 Superb?

I'm guessing it will be the same set up as the Passat B5 4Motion, on the 2WD cars you can get access to the adjuster near the handbrake lever, but on the 4WD cars, the prop shaft will be in the way - leading me to think that VAG moved the adjuster along to beside where the cable passes through the lower swinging arm.

Cables were okay until I had to replace a calliper (with a re-manufactured by Pagid one), seems the new calliper is slightly different to the original as far as the handbrake is concerned.

Also, how many "notches" of travel are allowed on a handbrake in a modern car before the MOT guy says "NO" ?

Thanks!

Oh no, that is the same platform as the later Passat - I thought that Superb mk1 had a 2.8V6 4X4 version?

2.8 V6 yes - there's one or two about.

4x4 no - not that I've ever heard of.

I must confess that I assumed that the 2.8 V6 was same as Audi A4 (B5) and VW Passat (B5) - and that assumption now appears to have been wrong!!

Anyway, my Audi/Passat USA Haynes book that includes 2.8V6 and 4Motion was as handy as my Passat UK Haynes book that does not include 2.8V6 or 4Motion. Though, common sense prevailed and I've solved my problem.
