Opinions needed ! Fancy a change.

Featured Replies

I want to try something a bit different to my little 1.2 HTP (70) but not sure what to do. I can't afford a new one as I won't be taking finance but I could stretch to around an 8k budget. As an old guy I am looking at laid back driving and reliability and I fancy a DSG as my previous 3 cars have been auto's.

I have in mind a 1.9 tdi DSG OCTAVIA ambient (2008) on sale close by which is 1 owner and has just over 22k on the clock OR..should I go for the 1.2 tsi DSG (105) Elegance FABIA 2010 model with 15K on the clock, superb but in bright yellow which is striking but a bit 'in yer face' !! Any opinions on the two models? Ta!!

you would love the 1.2tsi engine in 105 flavour with DSG :) unless you do long miles the deisel isn't cost effective, but may be good if you need the bigger space of the octy...

personally I'd go for the fabia.... :)

I like my Fabia it's a good size, light and airy and it's quite a willing little engine, fine around town but the 3 pot loses it's economy at motorway speeds. I'm going to look at both tomorrow and see which I fancy. It's just nice to have the opinions of others who have driven them. I'm looking forward to having an automatic again.

after living with the 7-speed DSG i wont be going back to a manual again :)

maybe drive them both.... the petrol would be better for shorter journeys and lower miles, if you are a real motoryway crunsher the deisel will be better, but the 1.2 (105) is suprisingly good on economy :)

If it's laid back driving and reliability you're after then I would say the 1.9 TDi edges the 1.2 TSi. More torque, more relaxed on the motorway and an engine that is damned near bulletproof if you keep to the scheduled oil changes.

Fabia for me, great engine and box combo and it's quite rare to find one of those in Elegance spec on the used market. Plus if it's the one I think it is, then a good price which probably reflects the less popular colour.

So if you can live with a car that is almost impossible to loose in a car park go for it; had a Fiesta many years ago in a similar shade :)

One of the main reasons for me buying a Fabia (vRS) was that it came as std with a DSG gearbox. I used the excuse that my partner only has an automatic licence, but after driving her Audi A3 with DSG, I knew I had to have one. My morning commute is so much easier and more relaxed.

Ha Ha! yes it would take some losing.Thing is I do rather like the look in the pics and the comet alloys just set it off nicely, but I need to see it in the flesh first. Good point about the Elegance spec being hard to find in the 105/DSG combo.

Try them both and see which you prefer. The 1.9 is pritty much bomb proof and won't enen be run in yet! It won't have a dpf either.... Happy days!

The 1.2 will probably be a bit ? quiter and smoother, but the octy should be a more relaxed chasis, so both will have their advantages. Try and enjoy. Buy the one that suits your needs/floats your boat

Shame they don't offer the Rapid with the 1.2tsi and dsg.

I have it with the 105 and 6 speed box and its great, big and comfy and relaxed to drive.

I had the 1.2 tsi DSG in elegance spec and it was a great little car. It had plenty of go in it and a few of my friends couldn't believe it was a 1.2. Did a run over to Londonderry from south Wales,2 adults, fully loaded with baggage and still didn't struggle and did the 370 miles on 3 quarter's of a tank of petrol. I would still have it today but the supplying dealer did me a cracking deal on a new Octavia vrs tsi for only a few quid more a month
