Kids tablets

Featured Replies

Has anybody got experience with these? the types I'm thinking of specifically are the leapfrog leappad2 and the vtec innotab2, they seem pretty similar as far as the specs and reviews go, never having bought anything like this before I'm unsure which is the better make.

I ended up buying my 4 yr old a cheap android tablet, theres loads of fee games on the playstore

Hi

I looked at leapfrog etc. But then was recommended the capacitive tablets on ebay.

My 6 year old boy has a capacitive 7" tablet and he loves it.

As said, loads of free games available from the play store.

Only cost £50 new off ebay, so its not the end of the world if he accidently trashes it.

It does everything my 10 year old's Nexus 7 does at a third of the price (Sure, the screen resolution isn't quite as sharp and the CPU is a little slower but that's all)

You can skype, iplayer etc. Basically everything.

In fact, its that good my Mum has ordered a 10.2" tablet from the same seller for £89 which should be here tomorrow.

Highly recommended (FYI the ebay seller is universalgadgets01 and they've sold thousands)

Cheers

Damo

The tablets aimed at small children are very limited, same as the CD and (older) tape players by VTech etc; I would ALWAYS recommend buying a semi decent "grown-up" model for them, you need something fairly simple to operate and STURDY.

When my son was (almost) 2, I bought him a basic Panasonic radio cassette player to stop him messing with my expensive Hifi; that was nearly 20 years ago; the Pana is still going strong, and being used by his half sister.

You mean I shouldn't let my 5 year old use my iPad?

Cheepy 'droid you can get a silicon cover for and screen protectors. Should help it survive a few drops and jammy fingers.

Our iPad 1 is still going strong, survived 3 years so far of kid abuse. :giggle:

Thanks guys, didn't even think about getting a cheap normal tablet, I'll look in to it.

I would avoid giving them an Apple product until they were past the "chewing everything" stage as it would make getting warranty work rather difficult (moisture sensor).

(Personally I avoid Apple full stop!!)

Apple products are easier for kids to use though. :)

Doesn't that say something about their owners? :p

My son has the NABI2 and works very well in daddy mode and kids mode (you control what they have access to) easily rooted so that google play works. has a memory card slot, HDMI out. only thing that lets it down is lack of UK accessories but plenty in the states.

We're probably going to go for one of the Android tabs from Amazon, they're about £50 and withe both myself and SWMBO being Android phone users well stick to what we know and get on well with.

I forgot to say the nabi2 runs on android, he has the 7-10 version http://www.nabitablet.com/

OOPS wrong place -i thought this was like the warning on side of panadol- "Take two ,and keep away from children"

Tesco are doing an Acer for £90 right now (£99.99 - £10 voucher), Acer are also doing £20 CASH BACK IF YOU BUY DURING MAY, meaning you only pay £70 in the end. It has pretty good reviews on the tech sites.
