I can see myself................

Featured Replies

out of a Skoda when I eventually change my vRS..............unless they start giving proper discounts.

even carfile is showing a fully-loaded Combi at just under £27k (not every option ticked, but most I would want).

and I want 4-wheel drive next, I think, so add another £1,000-£1,500 for the Scout (so £28-£29k)?

When you look at that kind of pricing, you can get a Kia Sportage KX4 with everything in it and a 7-year warranty for £26k; a Nissan X-Trail with everything in it and a 6-year warranty (extended from their 3-year standard) for £25.5k.

It's quite disappointing really, cos I love my vRS....................... :(

Perhaps you need to decide whether you want an estate car or a 4x4 / SUV.

If you are considering an SUV such as an X-trail then a Scout is a reasonable alternative.

If you just want an estate rather than a full-on "off road" SUV, but would like a bit more traction from a 4WD system (such as Subaru offer) then the ordinary (non-Scout0 4WD Octavia Estate might be a more appropriate choice.

Where are you planning to use the car, and what for?

After 3 vrS's I went for the 170 Yeti as I also wanted the flexibility of 4X4 ... power is the same obviously and handling isn't too bad though not in vRS league.

170 Elegance is about £23K new depending on the extras chosen.

The Yeti has loads of smile factor ... can't put my finger on why but it's the car that has got under my skin most.

Iain - unfortunately, the Yeti boot is too small (I have 2 young kids).

Other than that, I would definitely be looking at one.

Stu - I live on a hill, albeit in an urban area, and when it snows I struggle to get out/back to the house - I know it's not often, but I also just fancy a 4x4/SUV next (until the new vRS comes out and I see one! :) ).

I just think Skoda pricing needs a rethink, and they may well give it one if sales aren't great, cos at the moment they bring a whole host of great value cars in to compete with them.

Yes the downside of the Yeti (particularly after an Octavia) is the small boot .... we have adapted to it but was a real nuisance to start with.

H, put winter tyres on your vRS from Nov to March & you won't need 4x4.

Winters + 2WD gives excellent traction on snow & ice. Some will say better than 4WD with normal tyres.

This is what I do and I live on a 10% hill in rural Somerset. Had no issues with the snow this year.

Thanks Dunc.

I have looked at it, but it seems such a faff - extra set of wheels, storage for the summer wheels, advising the insurance company, etc.

What I will be looking for (eventually) is a 4x4 which I can put all-season tyres on (Pirelli Scorpion or Goodyear All Season).

At least, I think so.

:)

I'd agree and seems you need different tyres, not a different car. Its not really that much of a faff plus you get to inspect your wheels every 6 months and have a spare set if one gets damaged. Plus most the insurers I've dealt with in the last couple of years don't really seem to care about you telling them any more.

But I do agree the prices of the new Skoda just don't make sense. Also thinking about a KX-4 when my Octy needs to be put down.

You could buy a loaded Sharan for that money.

Or an Alhambra for £850 less with more kit. Interesting comparison.

Neither of which have 4 wheel drive, which the OP says he wants.

Agree, have a Octy vRS estate right now (new four months ago) but have to say a loaded Yeti Elegance/L&K 170 4x4 would be a viable alternative; completely different car and still not sold on its looks but id still really like one and I cant quite put my finger on why that is!

I think I read on here somewhere there's a LWB Yeti in the works, or even a new SUV model? I liked the Yeti, but like others said, boot too small.
