  • OK so the result is in...   It a Seat Ibiza Excellence 1.0 110bhp in white with a few scrapes on the front bumper.   Hence the closest in this competition of hire car bingo is @mac

Yeah, well sod off :D

Well, @punyXpress.  No.

@V6TDI the Duster "or similar" was an option , but no.

Its my first ever FIAT!

A Tipo Hatchback diesel :D

ive only driven it about 6miles so far, as we are staying local tonightbefore heading toward Rosolina Mare (south of Venice) tomorrow. So tomorrow will be a better shake down. Stand out so far... Gearstick is... actually quite french in that  the gears seem very far apart, possibly have spare lever slots fitted between them... and it a 6 speed manual with reverse waay over to the botton right beside 6th with a pull up guard. Its not one im used to..

will report on performance tomorrow, but i think.... dead... might be the best description.. based off those first few miles.

No.

Like the Barkley marathons and "Bigs BackYard Ultra" there might be 1 winner or none, but theres no second place.. just DNF..

Have you given Auric the answers for next weeks "Days to Xmas", you know what he is like without a back up assistant?:drink::party:

Todays Post already Posted.

Happy Jollies Mac and I'm going to guess your hire car is a Fiat Tipo Hatchback.

So, turns out its a petrol, not diesel.

Havnt been arsed figuring what size yet other than microscopic i think...

First gear is pointless, it just makes noise. Rest of the gears... 3/4th have a bit of go, but not much, it just has no guts... a citigo could probably out do it to 60/70mph... fuel consumption.. hard to gauge as speed limits are strange, lots of 70kph and 90kph, and it wants you into 6th by about 50kph..

Has a "city" steering button that makes it go all light, and baby finger for a 3point turn.

Boot space is alright.

Rear view mirror visibility is crap. Wing mirrors are alright though, and im used to vans with no RVM so i dont use it 1/2 the time anyway.

When FIAT put a similar button on the Punto, it promptly got named the "girly button" by my pals at the time.

Mac's not going anywhere near it now considering his workmates reaction to using girly-assisted-steering (G-A-S).:D

I didnt say i was or wasnt using it, just that its there. I tried it out alright to see what its like. It wasnt turned on today... at all.

I wouldnt say im not using it because its "girlie" but just because it feels almost too light and completely disconnected from the wheels.

We hired a Focus-sized car the other week. We were told we were lucky and were getting a double upgrade, we got a... diesel Qashqui.

How we hated that car. Drove like an underpowered sofa. Made a full orchestra of bings and bongs at every opportunity. Couldn't even switch the damn thing off without pressing 3 buttons.

To be fair it was good on fuel we got over 600mi from a tank and it was reletively comfortable.

But we did wish we'd just got the Focus we'd asked for.

If this is the type of car that the majority wish for then the human race is doomed.

I had a hire car from Belfast airport the other week - ordered an 'i30' sized car...   got a Sportage!

  • Author

So it went back Tuesday afternoon.

I discovered when filling up its only got a 45litre fuel tank... i was down to 0 range leaving for the airport, so .y plan had been - put 45litres in now, drive to the airport and do the last Station topup of about 15litres (10 +5 for what id have burned driving there) when we got to treviso. It clicked out after 43.5litres!

Economy, therefore was middling when you consider the oddly low speed limits everywhere.

Handling was alright, and ride was okay

Aircon worked

Roomy enough

Gearing was horrendously bad though, and i dont think anyone involved in the engine design knows what bhp or torque mean.. it just did nothing in any gear.

Even spudrick queried me pulling out of a junction from a standstill into traffic today..."why are you making the car noisy daddy? Your not going fast!"
