Is it possible to remove the maf sensor to clean it on the Fabia VRS or is it in a sealed unit that has to be replaced?

You have to replace it if it's faulty, it's too delicate to clean.

Ah ok. On my old car you could take it out and spray carb cleaner on it, let it dry out naturally and put it back in. Been through the forum and the issue I seem to have is down to the MAF sensor. The car has done 120k now so is probably still running on the original MAF sensor and have looked at it and I'm guessing the original MAF sensors they put on the Fabia VRS are Bosch?

They are Bosch I believe.

I once cleaned a Bosch MAF sensor in a previous car. When I put it back in it was shockingly bad......I destroyed it by cleaning it!....I had to leave it unplugged until I got a replacement.

I used carb cleaner and a bit of wet/dry, was very gentle as the prongs are tiny. Can't say it made much difference, but that's either a sign its knacked or was fine anyway.

If you do try to clean it, you'll need a dremel to get the screws out-cut a line accross ,nand use a flathead. as they are a 5point security but the sets you buy from screfix etc e 6star.

Didn't really wanna fork out for a new one but think it's looking like the easier and safer option. I need my car for work and can't risk messing up the MAF sensor.

Can drive without one, just have poor mpg/performance. Have you driven with it unplugged to confirm that's the issue? If it is knackered cleaning won't do much/anything anyway

haven't tried it yet. Will try tomorrow. :-)

and on a side note, don't bother trying a hacksaw, it is hardened steel...well that or my saw was blunt.
