Brake pedal warning light

Featured Replies

I only picked up my Citigo (ASG) today, so I am still getting used to it. One thing I have noticed is that the brake pedal warning light has come on a few times. Is this because I have put the handbrake on before applying the brake, and if so, would it be best to describe the light as a reminder, rather than a warning?

Related to this, when stopping on a hill, am I ok to just stop the car by using the brake pedal rather than putting the handbrake on as it says in the handbook? Just want to make sure I have read that right.

Enjoy your new car.

Do you normally pull on the hand brake before coming to a complete stop or having your foot on the brake pedal?

Can you explain what you mean by stopping on a hill,

do you mean coming to a stop using the brake pedal facing up or down a hill and then moving off, possibly using the hand/Parking brake

or actually Parking on a Hill?

george

If you mean the green pedal light, it comes on to remind to to press the brake (sometimes harder) before putting it into D or R (from N) - and totally normal.

Thanks for the replies.

Phil - yes, the green pedal light, but at the moment, it's coming on every time I stop the car i.e. press brake, put handbrake on, put car in N - it's on.

George - I meant stopping going up a hill, in traffic.

Our ASG does this too. I think it is just a reminder to press the brake before selecting a gear from neutral.

Yep - it will do whenever you're not in D or R and you DON'T have your foot on the footbrake.

Forgive me if I wrong, phil, but i dont think you can select D or R without having the brake pedal depressed.

It's a safety device to stop the car lurching unexpectedly.

Yep - and the green lamp is to remind you to do it ;)

Edit: On an ASG, you can move the gearlever to the position but it doesn't do anything until you do it again, but properly..
