Split wing mirror

Featured Replies

On the drivers side wing mirror there is a split, I assume this is to give different views of overtaking cars, Problem is mine has the same view, is there any way of adjusing this

Not sure what you mean by split. Do you have a picture you can post?

sorry for the delay and thanks nemtex for coming back to me. Can't supply photo but this is a clean cut verticle line about 50mm in from outside bottom corner of the mirror - this is not a crack.. since the original posting i've seen it on other scoda's

the difference is so slight I really had to concerntrate on the motorway so much that i nearly ran into the back of the car in front

This is called an aspheric mirror glass. From the door end of the glass to the vertical line, it is a flat glass,. so what you see is true. From the vertical line to the edge of the mirror is convex, giving you the wider field of vision, at the expense of making things appear further away than they are.

You can see that in the way the line of the door curves away in that section on this photo.

Thought this was what you were talking about but wasn't 100%. I have found it quite noticable when driving down a narrow country lane as it gives the impression that the trees/bushes are moving faster than you are. best not to dwell on it too much as you mention above :whew:

I love the wing mirrors, could not go back to smaller ones excellent visibility.
