Pros and Cons of running a diesel VRS

Featured Replies

Considering switching the Fabia VRS for an Octavia estate. I have interest in one at £17500 on a 62 plate and 5000 miles.

What is the honest real world mpg without starting a debate on the subject

Any concerns with the diesel lump (bearing in mind i have had a new engine unit in the Fabia) so keen to know.

Do these come with DPF as standard? Had a previously bad experience but that was when the technology was relatively new.

Anything really to be aware of?

Is the Octavia section not the best place to be asking in?

Not many of these around.

There are 5 diesel VRS 2010-2012 drivers in Spritmonitor.

They average 6.25 L/100km = 45 MPG(uk)

Not too bad compared to the average of 5.76 L/100km = 49 MPG(uk) for all other diesel Octavias of the same age:

How many miles per year do you do?

On average I get high 40's from mine, typically around 40 round town once warmed up and over 50 on a run - how many you'll get obviously depends on how you drive it and the type of journeys you will do.

No doubt I could get more if I drove like miss daisey but then what would be the point of having a vRS!

The CRs all have a DPF, but they're not as prone to as many problems as the PD as the DPF was retro fitted to the PD and the CRs only require being driven normally at a constant speed when it's doing a regen. Any problems that do occur seem to be sensor related or repeated regen cycle failures caused by driver behaviour more than down to the DPF itself.

The milage you do isn't overly important, it's the type that's important IMO- if you do a lot of stop start short journeys/low speed commuting then any modern diesel is probably is best avoided as they all have DPFs.

CRs will cost more to buy initially, but hold their value better and are cheaper to run. I'd suggest you test drive one to see if it floats your boat! I couldn't say how it compares to your vRS Furby as I've never driven one.

Agreed...but since you are asking on the wrong section I'll guesstimate 40 mpg,in which case no better than a Fabia vRS.

Yes George it would be a good idea to post in the Octy II section, can't think why I posted it here, certainly hadn't intended to.

Currently looking at 25000 miles per annum. But at 45 mpg I may just as well stick with the Fabia. Still can't really convince myself to go diesel though :)

Could a mod move this thread to the Octy II section please, totally inappropriate for the Fabia II section.

Please accept my apology i was just saying, my big mouth, sorry.

there are some vRS owners in this section that also have an Octavia vRS, just no idea if they are diesel or petrol.

I hope the Fabia vRS owner that changed to the vRS Blackline Diesel is still around.

No worries, I really thought I had posted in the right place, I was certain I was in the Octy II section when I created the post and was somewhat surprised when my post didn't appear there. Glad i decided to follow my own thread, otherwise it would have been lost.
