04 Octavia TDi SE CEL and Limp problem.

Featured Replies

Hi,

This is my first post here, so hello everyone! I'm not very car savvy at all, so I do apologise for my glaring lack of technical knowledge!

I just bought an 04 plate Octavia TDi SE (130bhp), It's a cool motor, and I'm chuffed with it.

However, I have a Check Engine Light constantly on, and it starts up in, what I believe to be "Limp" mode. The turbo won't kick in, and the car lacks power and is very slow. If you turn it rapidly off, and then back on again, (or stall it, s I did the first time) it seems to reset, and the turbo kicks in as it should do, and does not go back into "limp" mode until the car has been stopped, and later restarted again. the CEL doesn't go out, at any point, whether it's in "limp" or not.

Does anyone have any ideas about this at all? Does anyone think the 'Mr Muscle' trick I've read about on here will work? I would really like to get this fixed as cheaply as possible, as soon as possible, as unfortunately, I may be out of a job soon, so I'm not going to be able to afford a massive bill :(

Thanks

Seano

I think you've got a Mk1 Octavia......you'd be better off posting in the Mk1 section.

......but the Mr Muscle trick may well do the trick.

Ok thanks man! How do I find out what MK my car is??

The give away for me was that you have a 1.9TDI with 130bhp.....on the Mk2 the 1.9 TDI's all have 105bhp (a 2.0 TDI was introduced on the Mk2 with 140bhp/170bhp)

But the easiest way is by looking at a pic of the two versions.

You have a rather rare car there, the Ambiente SE was a run out model with the 130bhp PD engine and I don't think that Skoda actually sold that many. It is a mkI though.

Another easy way of telling the difference is that the mk1 had a round fuel filler flap whereas the mk2's filler is rectangular.

Got a mate with a diagnostic machine thing piece of voodoo, so I'll report back just for any interested parties.

Also, anyone ever have alarm issues? mine keeps going off :(
